How to get benzos

Hi everyone,

I have a GP appointment coming up soon and I need to get some benzos.

What's my best approach to get them, what do I say?

I have all I need, apart from benzos.

depends:
prescribing culture? usa apparently hard to get; canada less so.
your gp? if you're seen as "drug seeking" that works against you
history? do you have documented conditions that make getting them easier/harder?

short acting ones are probably easier to get and often used for sleep. to me this is foolish since they are more likely to be abused and cause tolerance.
long acting are for "anxiety", "panic" or whatever thing in that nature.

how you go about it will depend on your circumstance

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm currently prescribed sertraline, amitriptyline and propranolol.

My GP is aware that I'm going through a rough time with life lately, and I was planning on using that to my advantage, I just don't know what to say really.

I'm in the UK, so I don't know if it's harder to get them here or not.

I initially got benzos due to dental phobia... any sort of circumstantial phobia (flying, dentists, public speaking, funeral, etc.) is usually a surefire way to get a small benzo rx. Once you get a couple pills prescribed for whatever phobia you described, tell your prescriber it really helped make the situation you feared manageable and that you have additional similar circumstantial events coming up and need a refill.

After you've been on it for a bit for those intermittent phobias without obvious signs of abuse or drug seeking, its easy to transition to regular use. The way I got my regular xanax prescription was to tell my doctor I was having an intense psychosomatic response to a dramatic life stressor and I couldnt stop dry heaving from my anxiety and was unable to eat or drink. I told my doctor that I had asked my mom for advice before going to the hospital for IV fluids and that my mom suggested i take a half tab of my dental anxiety xanax rx to see if I could avoid an ER visit.

Told my doctor that my mom's recommendation was extremely helpful and that I was actually able to stop gagging ang keep down food and fluids by following her suggestion to take the xanax and my doctor was cool with it. I had been struggling with anxiety for years and had tried other things for my psychosomatic gastrointestinal issues but nothing had helped up until that point, so perhaps that played a role in my doctor being down to make my prn xanax prescription a daily medication. Unclear.

Since then, I've played that up... just keep telling my doctor that it seems to be the only thing that helps with my panic attacks and allows me to eat and function and that I'm really trying hard to work through my anxiety in therapy and by eliminating triggers and joining support groups and exercising and meditating and what not and my doctor has totally been on board with that. I've been getting a 30 day supply ever since, no questions asked.

I take valium because of my anxiety / depression and for my muscle spasms due to my rare disease. But there a so many other benzos.
You can tell your doctor you have panic attacks, you cannot sleep, problems at your work place, things like that. And you need to take some treatment for a few days or weeks to sleep better and get better (just don't tell him you're suicidal...). It should work without problems because if you're on this forum, it means you are suffering, so you're not lying to the doctor

Getting a rolling 30 day script would be great, as there are certain times I could genuinely use something to calm me down, I've just never dared ask for some.

Getting a rolling 30 day script would be great, as there are certain times I could genuinely use something to calm me down, I've just never dared ask for some.

I'd recommend bringing up addiction potential and risks... it helps if you sound extremely cautious and like you dont know if its a good idea to use benzos because it is such a "scary" class of drugs.

I asked how I'd know if I was developing an addiction, tolerance and things along those lines and really played up the idea that I dont want to be reliant on dangerous medications and that benzos frightened me.

Definitely makes it seem like you aren't drug seeking and that you are knowledgeable about risks and have spent time considering the pros and cons and are just seeking advice from your trusted medical professional.

Never demand. Always be casual... make them think it was THEIR idea.

well i personally am going to visit the VA in person to get my benefits as a disabled soilder. They have been denying me for 3 months straight. I moved states and they send me on an infinity loop back and forth between the useless state offices. i have thousands of dollars of medical debt. i cant pay it. hopefully the VA is kind enough to grant me insurance. the government smashed my kneecaps after all. then i will get a prescription for opium or some shit and kill myself. i doubt it will work but it is the only proto-plan resembling a plan that i have currently.

If you're in the US, talk about how you're having anxiety about whatever it's believable in your life would cause anxiety, driving or social interaction or the state of politics, and how it's impacting your work or school, and tell them friends or family members have expressed concern about your anxiety. (you need to have specific examples of what people have said, but don't elaborate those examples unless asked, just say like 'my best friend said they're worried because I never want to go out anymore'.)

That must be awful for you, as a soldier who has served your country, you should be given whatever it is you need.

I think they would've given me them had I not been honest about my suicidal thoughts, because they held off and only gave me sertraline. they were worried that they were addictive and they didn't want to give me pills like that where I could possibly take them all. on top of that I have to get my prescription weekly which only contains 7 pills to last the week so I can't od. I think trying to seem normal and not suicidal is the best bet to get them. if you show concern about side effects and stuff that would help too, just dont come across as too desperate for them

I'm on sertraline also, how are you finding it?

I'm also on amitriptyline for nerve pain. I was thinking about asking for duloxetine instead as it works for nerve pain too, and stopping the sertraline and amitriptyline.

The only problem I have with that is that the sertraline works pretty good, well it did until recently. I hope it's not losing it's effectiveness.

I'm on sertraline also, how are you finding it?

I'm also on amitriptyline for nerve pain. I was thinking about asking for duloxetine instead as it works for nerve pain too, and stopping the sertraline and amitriptyline.

The only problem I have with that is that the sertraline works pretty good, well it did until recently. I hope it's not losing it's effectiveness.

I only started it last week so I haven't noticed much yet, and im only on 50mg. im finding it alright so far. no changes to my mood yet but that will come after using it for a few weeks, so far ive just been feeling nausea and restlessness. but it has helped me become more tired. im definitely still not getting enough sleep but it has helped just a little in that area

Ah ok, I hope it works out for you. I honestly loved it from around week 3-4. It reminded me slightly of ecstasy just starting to work.

Sadly that feeling didn't last, but it still mellowed me out quite a bit.

I hope it works too, it's my first time getting treatment at all so im hoping it does something good. im sorry that feeling didn't last for you. hopefully you can find something that helps more one day

Thanks, don't get me wrong, it still works ok, it's just that initial euphoria that didn't last.

I've tried fluoxetine before as well, it's a bit more energizing. It made me sort of flat though, like in not happy but not sad either. I went back to sertraline.

If you have any type of anxiety, social anxiety or public speaking or something, ask if you can have propranolol along side the sertraline. I find it makes me much calmer.
