How would it be possible to avoid guilt and regret because you choose to do something terrible?

When someone plans to commit suicide, they have second thoughts about throwing their life away or thoughts about how their family would feel. How can someone acquire a mindset like this one, which avoids this fear?

i think the best way to avoid this fear is to be 1000% sure this what you want. if you truly think committing is for you, then you have no reason to feel guilty. i think you should think about why it is you want to die and think if there would be anything that would change your mind and figure out how attainable it is before taking your life.

to me, i'd honestly remember myself that i won't witness nothing of this when i die. it won't matter to me anyways.

it's kinda of selfish i think, but in the same hand, they can't feel the void and sadness i have for being alive. the pain in life is bigger than my guilty

My thinking is this: I don't want to live, and this is my life; nothing and nobody has the right to interfere.
If you let something like this throw you off track, perhaps all is not lost.

You don't. You just take the guilt with you, let it die with you. You don't avoid it, you bury it with you. I mean, let's be fucking for real right now, you are leaving your loved ones to deal with the mess. I'm not being mean, I am in that exact position so I can speak about this subject based off what I've experienced.

Take it with you.

We live in Shame too, the more we live the more we shame we face because our life is uncertain. And death is the most freeing thing to a conscious being. I see it as true freedom and peace of all.

I don't have guilt because there's no one to hurt with my death. No one to care. No one to miss. I feel guilt by being alive and wasting everyone's time the more I prolong this inevitable departure.

Guilt and regret and shame are temporary, and belongs to the livings. Dead men take nothing with us. There's no need to be afraid of death.

it's okay to be selfish. people seem to forget that very often.
if nobody is helping you and you can't get a hand up, and this really is the best thing for you, then there's no reason to feel guilty. i'd tell myself that it could be avoided, but nobody has given that opportunity.
in the end, you can't take it with you. when you're gone, you're gone, no guilt left.
death is all in or all out, you have to be willing to give everything you got to it. the good, the bad, the ugly.

Personally, I can't move beyond the concern of what it would (probably) do to my Dad. Although- I do think a lot about it. One reason to not feel guilty or selfish is maybe to consider: What kind of person wants another to stay here only to suffer? Why do we consider that love or even a reasonable ask of someone? So- the expectation that we stay is unreasonable and selfish to begin with.

That said- there's little denying that suicides do affect those left behind profoundly. And, it's only natural to not wish to upset those we love.

Sometimes I think being honest with people- trying to get them to understand and accept our decision- as best they can- could be a way to solve the problem. Although, our society/ culture isn't in a good place to do that. People risk very negative reactions to being honest. So, it's no wonder people don't talk about it.

I suppose I wonder in future- if assisted suicide is legalised globally. If it becomes a more acceptable choice in the group psyche- perhaps future generations will have an easier time talking about it at least.
