Recently I read a zerohedge artile where they fed an AI model with data. They trained an AI model and asked the LLM for answers afterwards. And considered it an expert. I was honestly surprised by this approach. I was stunned that they made this transparent. I couldn't imagine a major German news outlet doing this. There are probably many German journalists that use AI without making it transparent. The same for scientists. But I think if it was made transparent there would be massive complaints.

I think in Germany many people are sceptical of AI. I know in the US there are also many people who warn about this technology and its impact. But I have the feeling there are more tech pessimists in Germany. I have a friend who despises AI and wants to move to Japan. I had to tell him...if you really never want to use AI you probably have a better chance to avoid it in Germany. (It is probably rather a time difference but Japan is more friendly about newest technological trends.)

Zerohedge is also more libertarian, right-wing and does a lot financial reporting. I could imagine this also plays a role. Recently I read a lot the FAZ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung). It is a German newspaper that centers around the economy. And I really notice a difference to most other outlets. Many articles are enthusiastic about AI as technolgy. I think libertarians have a different view on AI.

This might be the future of journalism if they get rid of hallucinations.

Where I see positives: it is innovative use of AI. But I wouldn't trust it. It was a way better approach than to simply ask the AI model by oneself. But I would ask myself where is the additional value of paying for a new paper if I could simply ask an AI chatbot by myself?

In my personal life I see a potential additional value when I use AI chatbots. But I am more sceptical about the societal impact. And I find it problematic when journalists use AI models to produce texts. I can see that this will get abused. The power structures are too obvious when a few billionaires own these tech companies. It can nudge public discussions in certain directions. It can influence elections and much more. I think artificial intelligence has the potential to do much good. I think also social media had the potential to have a positive impact on the world. But the social reality of how it was actually used was quite different.
