new here, sorry if this question isn't appropriate. i made up my mind on offing myself a while ago. decided that taking a leap of faith off a bridge is the most viable option atm. i'm wondering how likely this method is to succeed, because although this bridge is a popular "suicide spot", i've heard of people surviving the jump, and i don't want to survive and spend the rest of my life as a vegetable, not to mention the possibility of being involuntarily institutionalized if i survive. the bridge in question is 60 meters / about 200 feet tall. at the bottom is mostly ground with a small river. there's no higher spot to jump from nearby. i've attempted several times before, mostly via overdose, i've run out of things to overdose on lol. don't have a gun or access to them, so it seems like this is the most effective method. thoughts?

It's impossible to say. I mean, if people have survived the jump that is a bad sign. But its 200 ft So that's about 15 stories and that's pretty high. Jumping is one method where if you fail you are screwed. You will be seriously injured and likely horribly altered from it. It's of course up to you but I would definitely advise against it.

200 feet high is pretty darn high. Like you said, others have survived it (and most likely wished they hadn't). It's a crap-shoot. It's hard to imagine any surviving such a fall, but it does happen. There have been people who survived their parachute not opening, or at least not opening fully, so take that with a grain of salt, I guess. I wouldn't know how to put odds of success on something like this. Nothing is really 100%. It would be hard to assign odds to this. All I can say is that it would be more likely than not that you would have a successful ctb from this height, but certainly not 100%. Good luck.

200 feet will leave a mark for sure. Aim for the river?

The answer is in the thread itself. There is a chance to survive, why such a risk?

200ft is like the 15-20 storey of a building so the probability is that it would be successful

You can fall 10 feet and die. It is all in the landing.
From google...
A more recent study on 287 vertical fall victims revealed that falls from height of 8 stories (i.e. around 90-100 feet) and higher, are associated with a 100% mortality [

If you have the courage to jump, maybe try suicide by subway or train? If done right, subway and train suicide is instant and should have 99% success rate with the same risks as jumping. But if you want to stick to jumping off the bridge, make sure you aren't wearing baggy clothing, or clothing that will flap in the wind (ex. a cloak) this will reduce the fall velocity. Mostly importantly, make sure to land on your head!

my friend jumped in front of a subway with the same intentions, survived but lost an arm and a leg, just putting that out there...

I think it depends on how you jump/fall and which position you land in.

I'm guessing landing foot first would give you the highest chances of survival because it may help to protect your torso and head.

Ideally, you want to land on your head/spine for an "instant" death.

But again nothing is guaranteed...People considering to jump just gotta take that big leap of faith....

holy shit man thats brutal. i would never consider ctb by train. strong chance of surviving and just being maimed like your friend or dying and suffering.
