my sleep schedule is completely fucked. I wish I had any way to fix it because I either go to sleep at about 20:00 and wake up at 1:00 or go to sleep at 3:00 and wake up at about 12:00. This has really messed up a lot of things from me. Alarms don't wake me up at all (I can sleep through actual rocket alarms). Anyone have tips?

My sleep schedule is another degree of fucked, definitely even more chaotic than what you describe. IDK for me it just works like that. If I have an important appointment I get up, and if I didn't get up it was because I felt sleeping through it was more important at that point. I always hear my alarms, I just choose to ignore them sometimes.
I think my tip for you is radical acceptance. My sleep is my choice and anyone wanting to disturb it, has to be important. I know the consequences of not submitting to normal waking hours, and I'm willing to pay that price, although I would sometimes like to find a profession that I can work at any time I want.

also: what do you have to say about the climate crisis?

I struggle with the same issue, and outside of meds that make me lethargic the next day the only legit 100% solution I found to waking up right away (no bs) is smelling salts... But... If you've never used them than there's like a 75% chance you'll use them once and then avoid them afterwards because they work too well.

There are alarms that will shake the bed. My boyfriend can't wake up because he definitely has sleep apnea but doesn't have insurance to get help. But I got him This one on Amazon ($20 rn and 30 day refund if it doesn't work) and it woke him up every time he used it.

Hate to promote unhealthy habits, I'm not saying to do it. But I will also keep my vape by me and hit it a few times when I wake up so the nicotine just gives me a rush. Then when I'm awake i drink coffee and sit upright on the couch for a while so I don't go back to bed.

I need answers for that question too tbh since I've been struggling with waking up for most of my life. Things kinda improved when I started taking activating antidepressants, but still a big issue. Also over time I also found a few things that helped me a bit personally, some probably obvious but maybe something will help you:

- sleeping with an open window somehow lets me get "better" sleep, like idk more oxygen or something. It's easier to wake up then
- setting up VERY strange and loud music as an alarm. TO SURPRISE MY BRAIN. I get used to every alarm sound over time so I need to change it once in a while.
- VERY high pitched alarm sounds seem to wake me up better. I think humans just find high-pitched sounds way more disturbing and alarming.
- setting up an alarm with vibrations on my phone, putting it on something made of metal (I mostly used a lamp that stands by my bed). When the alarm starts buzzing the vibrations get enchanced by the metal. Combined with loud music it's pretty much the only thing that can wake me up because it's irritating as fuck
- (very dumb but) I drank a lot of water before going to sleep so when I woke up I would need to piss so fucking bad that I HAD TO get out of bed (might also wake you up in the middle of the night. It probably will 50% of time)

Honestly, I always feel sleepy and end up falling asleep easily, but I like to wake myself up by reading. I like to read Japense djs (doujinshi) which are like self-published works that talk about characters I like. I also love to read BL which is just basically gay stories with men lol. I love to read, and I also love to exercise, so I tend to immediately get up to take care of my dogs and workout.

3mg of melatonin works for me

it's propably due to cortisol levels that you wake up in the middle of the night

I would say: try to go to sleep every day at 3:00 if you can and see how it works. technically you are getting 9 hours of sleep which is healthy

Ah for me it's mainly a problem since I'm a uni student with courses at regular hours. I would love to go down the acceptance route tho đź’”
About the climate- this might be derailing the post a bit but we pretty much lost our chance to fix climate change and we'll be trapped in a positive feedback loop because of the amount of water vapor in the air (more water vapor=more heat trapped in the atmosphere). The only ways we have of "fixing" things is to stop all fossil fuels and emissions immediately (which will never happen because that's unrealistic-human greed). The best thing you can do now which I encourage everyone to do is to build local community, start practicing RESILIENT permaculture and plan for massive wildfires and wet bulb events- there's a huge one raging in my country as of my time writing this and they have been occurring more and more recently.

I have an alarm on my phone for work days, a husband who whines if I don't get up to make him breakfast (he's lovely but is not a morning person), and a toddler.

And cats, but they have an automatic feeder now. Need to figure out how to do that for the husband.

Same I just use caffeine. I don't like coffee so I use the Celsius energy packets and I use an entire bottle of water and 1/2 and the whole packet so it's not too sweet.

Ayyyeee I wrote something for uni about doujinshi and about the origins of the fujoshi community. Fascinating subject :^) used to read some doujinshi myself.
Reading might be good once I figure out how to wake up

Hahah. I wish I could bring my dog to the college dorms.

I have no obligations to have to wake up for, but I also can barely sleep. When I am actually out though, I find that I will wake up in pain if I sleep too long. Basically pain is what gets me out of bed, because my body NEEDS to move to relieve it.

I can just keep on sleeping… the longest I slept was 17 hours I think?
Maybe I could rig something together to zap me awake though. I know my way with electricity shrug

I used to be able to sleep the days away, but something changed in me that doesn't let me do that anymore. It has its pros and cons. You could try going to sleep hungry and perhaps the hunger will force you up. That or drink a lot of water before bed so you have to wake up to pee. That's the most common reason I wake up prematurely.
