Is just surviving enough though? Barely making it? In California the wait list for section 8 and low income housing is 11 years! You get $150 a month for food stamps. I spend that every 2 weeks. For SSI you get $700-800 a month. You can't even rent a tent in someone's backyard for that and if you are older over 50 and disabled there just isn't enough help for people! It's not just mental illness that keeps people from getting help.
I see what you're trying to say but it becomes a slippery slope when you bring up being poor/relying on welfare and whether it's worth it to "barely survive." It's not like it's impossible to be happy and poor. There's some intrinsic challenges but you could argue that every economic class faces them to some degree.

I do remember hearing from my friends though that Medicare (or Medicaid i forgrt which one) is horrible for mental health treatment. Limited number of sessions and very few practioners take it. It's no wonder the clinics who accept it are usually the worst clinics around-- they treat the clients and their employees terribly. Poor people who need mental health care can't get the quality care they need as a result

Ha, as if I need to to provide justification to you upon demand.
We all have our own reasons for being on here - sometimes our specific reasons are none of other people's business, nor are they for public consumption.
If you want to put the time in to review all of my previous activities to better understand my story, then you can crack on. Enjoy!
No, you enjoy your new stable life

I used to be homeless. I survived by reading books and watching Twitch streams. What people don't tell you about being homeless is that nobody cares about you, nor will help you in this cruel world. You have to rely on charity or government assistance. My experience at the shelter gave me more proof that people these days don't gave a damn about each other.

They have a high rate of suicide so...they don't.
Really? How high is the rate of suicide?

Ask me in some years....I hope I won't exist. In my naivity I hope welfare might be enough to survive. I am just not able to hold a job.

If anything welfare is going to be less and less sustainable… It's every man for himself

I live in Germany. People in the US have told me they wished to have German welfare. Some on this forum told me I am kind of priviled to get it. On the other side 2 therapists think I gonna ctb due to this poverty. Tbh I think they are right. I am just not used to it. In the past I already tried to simulate poverty. It is the hell.

I could see you guys continuing to have welfare for sure. The United States is becoming increasingly stratified… I mean it already was but it's getting worse and worse… Where I live in Venice there's almost a Third World quality… There's shantytowns basically of how much people…

I think it might just be the fear of the unknown. No matter how much some people are struggling, they would rather deal with that instead of what the afterlife brings, aka the unknown.
This i understand, even if you are a an atheisth and you think the lights just go out when you die, you can`t answer that for real. I guess its a mix of fear of the unknown and the hope things can improve.
