An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.
Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.
i end up scrolling a lot when my online friends arent around, but mainstream social media is such a cesspool it makes me feel like the world is a much crueler place than it may actually be.
but i don't really have anything going on to replace the behavior :(

I feel that, whenever I read Instagram comments my faith in humanity decreases TwT people are so mean sometimes for no reason. Have you tried to find a game or app that you really enjoy? Maybe whenever you find the urge to scroll you could do that instead :) that helps me sometimes, also going on places like Pinterest where it seems there's not nearly as many awful people saying bad things. I wish I had more ideas, if I think of anything else I'll come back to this thread. I hope you're able to find something to replace that behavior soon

oh, i'm really into splatoon lately but my cat is sleeping on my chair right now... i don't wanna disturb her lol
until then i just have all these thoughts swirling in my head :/ thought loops are a bitch
but maybe i should get up and try to do something
thank you!
I've completely went over to Pinterest, tumblr and YouTube only and even though it's hard, I do really recommend it :) I get stuck into thought loops as well and I try to stop that by watching a video on something I like! You can do this. I also agree with the things mentioned before, maybe finding a game you really like can also help.

i agree, youtube is the best imo cuz you get to curate what you watch and see
algorithms and even those you follow can just tend to throw whatever at you

As someone who spends ages on social media (especially YouTube), I understand you! Social media can be a blessing, yet a curse at the same time. Depending on what apps you do use for social media, I do suggest to perhaps try to migrate to the more safer ones. For example, Instagram is so toxic, especially on reels. Like soulkitty said, Pinterest and YouTube are alright and safer spaces. Though, it is still both social media, and there are a few bad apples.
Maybe what's best though is to try and cut it off, or limit usage. What I did (which may not help much) is set a screen time limit for the social media. I know you can always just turn it off, but it does somewhat give you some form of time management. Maybe try looking for new interests or hobbies you might enjoy, or some games. Even with my mediocre advice, I hope you find some way to get off of social media! It's a great eay for connections in the digital age, but it can be so darn harmful at the same time. I'll go back to this thread if I find new ideas!
Use "ScreenZen" app to block social media from your phone, use "HeyFocus" app to block social media on MacBook. Both app have password function, you can give it to your parents or friends. I have been on this for a few months, it works well.
What I found useful on YouTube was using an extension to block any suggestions or recommendations. Literally all I had was a search bar plus all my subscriptions to check in on. That way you can bypass the algorithm. I also found discord useful, I think it's one of the better social media platforms as it doesn't really force content on to you.
Find something else to do, it's hard but it's easier to balance when you have something else to do alongside social media, you may find you attract people out of it as well
It's probably not possible to quit. Maybe just delete the nastier apps suck as TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and stick to slightly healthier ones such as X (that one is still addictive though of course)
