How did you first hear about and/or find your way to this site?

I was trying to look up some info about a (now defunct) USENET group called alt.suicide.holiday (ASH) which was the first pro-choice suicide discussion group on the internet as described in their FAQ. Google blocked access to the news group, along with its sister newsgroup alt.suicide.methods so I couldn't read any posts on there anymore (google groups is the only place that has an archive of posts across the entirety USENET). Both of them would've died regardless because USENET is practically dead. In the search there were several references to the SaSu Reddit page which was banned, but I found the site shortly thereafter just by googling the name of this site.

The deaded video... the more I watched I started thinking, this sounds interesting, I knew it wouldn't be the way it was described. I know the idea of this site and the subjects discussed here would seem horrific to the average contented Joe in the street and I understand that. The people who belong here will see it as a sanctuary, a place to feel free to be open about their feelings, and find the information they need, either to end their life, or to find a way to navigate it. The people who don't belong here will see it as a hellish place full of tortured souls dragging others down into their misery. This site is marmite:)

Looking for methods, it occurred to me to look for a forum because I remembered when I had anorexia, pro-anorexia forums abounded, so it occurred to me to search that way on Google and then on a news page I don't remember which one talked about this forum and that's how I got here, thanks to the media

I expect the majority of these are young adults too- under the age of 24. I get the impression that that is a large section of his audience. I wonder how many minors have tried to create accounts. Or- even- who now know of this place- where they wouldn't have before.

I have very mixed feelings about suicidal children. I can sympathise because I was one. I personally DON'T think it's good to advertise this place to children though- and- even criticism is a form of advertising- it makes someone aware of something they weren't before. Children are perfectly capable of making their own decisions. Being told something is bad or dangerous won't necessarily stop them from looking for it. In fact- for many- it will simply peak their curiosity.

I feel SO sorry for our mods- who have to now try and decipher who is lying about their age to create an account. (By the way- I'm NOT saying I agree and that this place is bad or dangerous- I'm just saying that personally- while I would have been very happy to find this place as a minor- I don't think it would have done me any favours.)

Unsure if the link rule applies to news sites but the article is called "Where the Despairing Log On, and Learn Ways to Die." Free to read on their site. I personally don't think it's even a worthwhile enough read to give them the free traffic for, but it's your prerogative.

I'm pretty sure I found out about this on Reddit back when it was more openly talked about but I don't remember exactly when that was. But I also might have found out about this site just from searching for methods, I don't remember which one it was but it was one of these two.

I saw a report of a police operation in my country where they arrested a group that helped people commit suicide after two girls died. In the report there were prints of the conversations between the accused and the people talking about a certain SN and about the SS.
I had never heard of the method with the SN, after this report it was easy to find the SS and about the method.

I felt lost after the subreddit was banned, and came here looking for the same sense of community. Eventually the more philosophical debates here got me into pessimist philosophy, which has helped to ease the severity of some of my issues. I do find it interesting that the majority of users reapond that they came from Tantacruel's video.
