  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

You think too much of the state security system. The state intervenes only when you seem to be challenging their system or setting up an example that might change social behavior in a way that the state does not approve of.

Nobody cares about some mentally troubled people venting on the internet. Nobody even cares if they go cbt.

Mental illness is still a dark and awkward topic and mentally ill people are already viewed as source of shame and pity so don't think anybody would go out of their way to save the people who visit this site.

There's no point. There are people from different countries on here. It would take a lot of time and money to track everyone down. No one is going to waste resources that are needed elsewhere to track down thousands of people who aren't doing anything illegal. The police wouldn't be able to do much anyway. In most countries they don't section you unless they believe you are in immediate danger of harming yourself. It would be hard to prove that since many people have been on here for years.

lol. It could be possible that there are non-suicidal users here that reviews the site, report CTB cases and track their IP addresses. I only asked cause someone in the chatroom said that a member was visited when they posted about CTB but I wasn't sure if this was true or not.

the authorities can't be bothered going through the effort of tracking people down online unless they commit serious crimes or leave their identity clear in the open

And how would they get ahold of the IP addresses?

Why not go further and lock up every person who googles methods ever ….

I've told professionals in the past about being on a suicide forum (not named it) and nothing happens. It's not illegal and it's not enough reason to section someone.

In my country even when I announce to mental health professionals how exact my plans to CTB are and what my intended timeline is the best they can do is call around and see if there is a spot in the voluntary ward (since I am not insane and being cooperative by telling them) only to get no's. I wish there was the safety of a ward taking me in if I were to almost CTB impulsively. It's making me bitter and it's making me yet one step closer to CTB in a very well thought out and intended manner.

I am the least tech savvy person in the universe (no, really. Like the worst. It's embarrassing) & even I've got multiple VPN's. I've no doubt there are non-suicidal people here - the site is littered with pro-lifers & reporters & trolls & attention seekers & on & on as well as the people that really need to be here for their bus or their recovery. But I can't imagine that level of resources available where I am, to track us all down. 🤞🏻

In such a case, each of us would defend ourselves with our own lawyer and many (like me) pay insurance for legal protection with premiums of several tens of thousands of euros. This would lead to an international echo of self-determination and the right to choose, practically a catastrophe for pro-lifers. Furthermore, many associations would support us, the newspapers would talk and the web would clutter. It doesn't suit pro-lifers. It doesn't make sense to give media space to a small company like us. For example, if I were attacked in here I would take the matter to the constitutional court. How many others like me?

A psych prison isn't beneficial. All they will do is watch you 24/7 to ensure you don't do anything to hurt yourself or try to kill yourself.

So in your opinion, everyone that's ever thought about suicide should be watched 24/7 and have absolutely no freedom or privacy? So locked away.

You shouldn't be on SS with that mindset. Please leave.

Didn't realise those types were on here. Doesn't exactly make us feel safe

In the UK they just want you to be out of the way. If I started shouting in a public place about killing myself I might get removed by police and possibly sectioned. But simply expressing a suicidal thought in private and online, even a serious plan, isn't of concern to any health professionals in this country.
I've told my GPs several times about suicidal ideation and they just offer drugs that they don't even know anything about, and have never followed up on me. If someone tracked me down and helped me based on this website I would be quite pleased tbh.

I'm not a lawyer but I think if that were to happen, it would amount to cyber-stalking. A (US) Federal crime.
I know that at least one of our mods was harassed by someone recently🌹💔
O u think we are being tracked liked telegram . Not like I care tbh about anything espically that. How did they harness them like come to their house or send a strongly wondered email .

My country doesn't put in the effort or resources to flag down domestic terrorist threats, do you think they're going to care what you do to your own self?
Plus, over here we value the sanctity of free speech over the safety of others.

With how the NHS has treated me when willingly trying to get help, and all the concerning shit I've told them openly, they would've already without seeing this place. They don't have the time, resources or patience to do something like that.
Plus I got rejected last time I tried to get help BECAUSE I've had SI and SH issues, so that's something to consider as well.

In the UK our NHS is in such a state that Mental Health Services can't cope with those seeking help from, or being referred by, General Practioners. The very last thing they wish to do is add even more folk needing help onto the endless waiting lists.

I'd buy a ticket !
This. I know people who have begged to be locked up somewhere because of their addiction/mental state, even threatening to end their lives or actually attempting and they just don't have the funding or resources

How come people who post here aren't tracked and put in mental hospital or something?

especially the ones who are serious and asking for detailed advice
They can't put me because I'm already there

Be careful guys, even though you seem anonymous in here, you're not necessarily anonymous all over the internet. I used helpline's online chat once and they tracked me down and called the cops, so keep in mind that it's never fully anonymous. And it's better to be safe than sorry

I imagine no one really cares if people kill themselves. I'm quite confused by this to be fair, because most people seem to agree killing themselves is wrong, but when it comes to providing help... you're just alone

No one cares in the UK. No NHS beds. No prison spaces. Schools are crumbling. Lack of care workers, social workers etc. If I went down, it is one less person to have to cater for and enough people looking for jobs to take up my job role.

Well, the hospital isn't always actually helpful. Tbh I think that most issues are more so from a lack of support like it's more situational and systemic rather than the problem just being all in someone's head. Hospitals aren't gonna help people going through difficult times they're just gonna add more bills…it's just the truth. I know people in healthcare think they are really helpful but it's really not that helpful. Plus, they are hardly ever educated on trans people and trans issues so going to the hospital when you're trans can be traumatic. Especially since they check your body I've had healthcare "professionals" be really transphobic and literally scream like they were afraid of me and they didn't get in trouble because trans people are such an "anomaly" that that was normal to all of them to be that way. And then they will just continue being extremely transphobic and then they physically assaulted me. I never even got any therapy when I was at the hospital last year just transphobia, bruises, and literal preaching outside my door. Yeah they just make things worse sometimes. People need to evaluate if it's someone's mental health or life circumstances that's the issue.
