I need to buy a rope. I know I can find one at the local hardware store, but I live in a small town and don't want to arouse any suspicion. I'm the farthest person from a handyman or a builder so I've never bought something from there before, and I know I can't just go in and buy a rope, because if someone I know sees and tells my parents or tries to talk to me...well, I just don't want that. Anyone have any tips or guidance on this?

When you go to the hardware store you know, tell your story and say that you need rope to make a coffee table from a tire. A minimum of 10-15 meters of rope is required for such a coffee table. You can show this video on YouTube and say "I'm looking for something like this" and buy the suitable rope.

Does your first sentence have anything to do with your second? And I'm 24 years old.

You have a right to buy rope & buying it on its own shouldn't cause any suspicion & even if it did, you have the right to own rope 🌹💔

People in those hardware stores are overly friendly! They want to know what project you're doing as the feel the need to help you make the best decisions. You definitely will need a good video or picture to help buy you rope these days. Lol

You can "find" (steal) ropes at playgrounds and harbors.

True, but my issue isn't with the employees in the store, it's with other customers who may know me or my family. Like, I don't want my pastor to be there and see me buying just a rope, he'll know what's up lol.

I think you're overthinking this.

i'm trying to figure this out myself. i'm thinking of purchasing ratchet straps and telling the clerk that i'm hauling a christmas tree if they ask questions. like others said, though, i doubt anyone will be suspicious unless you're acting strange (i.e. overexplaining and visibly anxious.)

You don't just gotta use a rope. Rope is recommended due to it being stronger But you can use any rope like material. Example (this noose I made):

Maybe say you've been asked to give a friend a hand to move some stuff into his/her new place, or they're going to College, and they asked could you pick up some rope to secure goods to a trailer ?

If you have access to a car and their is another hardware store near enough by, you could just drive for awhile and pick it up there.

Buying rope doesn't raise suspicion. ANYONE and EVERYONE buys rope at some point in their lives for all kinds of things.

If they ask, you can say that you will use the rope to do exercises like jumping or climbing. Or if you ride a bicycle, you can use it to tie things to the luggage rack.

Otherwise you can get it online at outdoor sports stores.
