I really wonder if other people experience this. Sometimes I hear a scream that I can only recognize as my dad, eventhough no one hears it. Whenever I hear it, I kind of freeze up and break out in a cold sweat. It doesn't occur often, perhaps once or twice a month, and sometimes I go a month where I completely forget this issue.
My dad screams alot whenever he's angry, and between when I was 4 and 7 he'd hit me. Guess my parents decided there were better ways to raise us. Not sure if that's the cause, since I'm over it now. Surely I'm not the only one with such an imagination?

It sounds like you suffer from some kind of PTSD. I experience similar things from mine.

It might be PTSD? Do you hear the screams in the white noise of another sound? I grew up in a house of constant screaming and fighting for the better part of 15 years and in certain songs or sounds I can hear my mother or father screaming, on occasion. It's like my shoulders and back of my neck seize up and have a heavy weight on them. I wonder if any of this sounds familiar to you.

For me it's kind of random. Sometimes it happens when it's quiet, other times while I watch something. I can definitely relate to geeling a heavy weight though, but I guess that makes sense.

I get that often, I hear him shouting my name in a certain tone that makes me immediately freeze and be triggered. Can be in plain silence for no reason. Mind you haven't lived with him in years. I personally have (C)PTSD so, I think that's something you could explore like suggested above. Sorry you experience this.

I experienced the same, for the first few years of living alone. It eventually stopped. Suspecting cPTSD.
