I'm about to ride the ambulance (hooray!) to a psychiatric hospital.

Got caught because made the mistake of telling someone and had my SN at work. They were waiting for me outside.

Ask me anything, I will answer when I can.

That sounds so horrible, I hate how this prison like society punishes people and causes them to suffer more simply for having a suicide method. It disgusts me how suicidal people are treat this way which is why of course it's always a terrible idea to be open about suicide methods.

I hope your stay isn't too bad. Or that it helps in a way.
What exactly did you tell your coworker? I'm just curious as they clearly took it very seriously and have always been worried about sharing my feelings like that.

Involuntary hospitalization can be a traumatic experience for many and something that certainly could be seen as a form of punishment. You are being held in a hospital against your will, your rights are being stripped away for an undetermined amount of time.

Fair enough, it can feel hash. But the truth is they do what they think is necessary to keep you safe, and they're there to take care of your needs. If they don't do that then they're not fit for purpose but it shouldn't be viewed as punishment, viewing it like that or encouraging that view isn't healthy or productive

funny things is, there have been studies on the fact that people are more suicidal AFTER involuntary hospitalization then before

This is why it is important not to say anything about the CTB project, the product (SN here), the method used, the place, etc. No one should know. It is to avoid the confiscation of his freedom, by forced and undesired hospitalization, searches, the confiscation of everything that could be used for the CTB...

You can talk about the CTB if you need it knowing the risk of hospitalization against your will, but not to talk about the methods, the place, when the CTB will be done! This is to avoid the confiscation of products, weapons... being watched, wiretapped,... then being arrested during an attempted CTB.

Psychiatrists, police, ... always ask you questions like, when are you going to CTB, with what method, where, ... it's a trap.

I'm sorry to hear that.
In some countries people can get into trouble for not "saving" someone from suicide. Consent is a serious thing, and it's not fair to disclose something like that to people. Here we all consented to see stuff about the methods etc. I hate it that we don't live in a pro-choice society, but here we are.
People want to have their asses safe and not be prosecuted if you'll ctb. Of course it sucks when the healthcare revolves around not getting prosecuted, not around actually helping the patients, but that's the sad reality.
I hope you will find the stay helpful, somehow, or at least that it will be short.
Take care!

As the pro-lifers can no longer punish people who have tried to commit suicide, they attack his relatives, see everyone, to force them to "punish" people who want CTB!

This is another way the pro-lifers have to force people who have tried to CTB (or want CTB) to be charged with pushing others to go to jail, lose their jobs, their license to be a doctor... so that these suicidal people go to a psychiatric hospital, for example.

The punishment is related to not assisting anyone in danger! Apparently all people who attempt life, the sacrosanct life, are dangerous people, to be locked up immediately, in an alternative to prison, but which is a prison, then to deprive them of freedom afterwards, if they come out of the prison!

Involuntary commitment truly is an awful experience. I've had it happen to me twice and the memories of being there still haunt me. It did not help me in anyway and only makes we want to CTB more because those memories will pop up in my thoughts forever. Just reading this thread is "triggering"

I hope you get out of there soon, it should only be a couple weeks. But in the ward that shit feels like a eternity.
Also hope you learned a valuable lesson on opening up to the wrong people. You absolutely CANNOT tell anyone how you're feeling. We're treated like criminals for questioning life and our role in it

I'm so sorry. I've been twice now for this reason and it's completely horrible. I've learned now that no matter how much I might want to talk about it, it's not safe with anyone but the people here. I hope you are out soon...here in the US it's a max 72 hour hold, thankfully, and I've always been able to convince them that I was being silly and I'm fine. Sadly, you can't be open with almost anyone about your real feelings.

Just curious—which year? Approximately, if that's too much potentially-identifying material.

I had the full on "Girl: Interrupted" experience, although a touch later on than the era shown in the Winona Ryder movie. I've heard the usual stay is a week now, but my insurance starts to get fractious after about 5 days. I actually used to go on purpose pretty often, but then covid broke the healthcare system, and I no longer consider it a safe option for me.

An institutionalized adolescence is shitty, though. Pretty much everything a teenager really wants to be doing is either banned or flat-out impossible.

Now, though, if I'm only behind the walls here and there and for just a week at a time, it's often not so bad. Or it didn't used to be. I like hanging out with the other mentally ill folks.

A lot of them probably say that, but how many of them actually care more about the patients in the hospital than profit? Depending on how long someone's insurance is willing to pay for their stay there, psychiatric hospitals will probably try to keep people there for that entire time because there's more money to be made.
