I'm a brand new member here. I have been lurking for the last couple of weeks mulling over what method to use…

Tonight, I will be driving out to somewhere in the middle of nowhere with a generator in the back of my car. Putting in headphones, turning that sucker on, and drifting away into a peaceful slumber.

I've seen some discussion here about what generator to use. The VAST majority appear to have CO detectors with automatic stops. I am using the Champion 4000W Portable Generator (model #200921). Champion seems to be one of the only brands that does not have CO detectors. It is also non-CARB complaint. It was quite pricey at $450, but I'm not taking any money with me, so didn't really matter.

If I chicken out or something goes wrong, I will come back to this thread to let y'all know I'm still here… if you don't hear back, I was successful.

Even though I'm new here, thank you to everyone who posts, comments, and runs this community. It's been one hell of a resource. My SI is pretty damn strong. Kind of "tried" partial suspension hanging, was about 10 seconds away from doing the exit bag when I realized that the helium tank is 20% air… apparently haven't been lurking here enough to know that's a well-known fact. Luckily didn't go through with that one.

This method seems much more passive, and it's quite a powerful generator that should put me out in just a few moments… I have found my way to CTB, and this community was a huge boon in weighing my options and ultimately making a decision. So thank you all!!

Good luck to you then and may you find your peace. Really. I hope you do and everything goes the way you want it to. For what it's worth, you can substitute nitrogen for the helium with the exit bag method. CO can be a good peaceful way to go. Unfortunately, with the generator, you'll have to tolerate the other nasty stuff that comes out of the exhaust along with the CO. It's been done with success, though. You should seal the vehicle up well.

Tbh I feel a tad uncomfortable having nitrogen shipped to my house, or going in and buying it. Call me crazy. With the generator I just said "me and some friends are going camping and want to plug in some big ass speakers." Not that I COULDNT go buy nitrogen… just makes me feel a little uncomfortable.

In terms of sealing up the car, Is that necessary? Im headed out to the middle of nowhere and will put warning signs on the outside of the car. But are you suggesting sealing it so that CO doesn't escape?? Seems like with how many people accidentally die from CO every year, it should be pretty easy.

Good call! I'm not 100% sure on where yet… but there's miles and miles of open space right next to my house. Or maybe go to the mountains… gonna leave here in a couple hours once it's late. Definitely will find something very tucked away. On the bright side, this generator says it's 64 db from 25 feet away. So I know it's gonna be loud, but that doesn't seem as many db as I thought it would be honestly.

I'm not sure I understand why you need to tell anyone anything about why you want nitrogen or why you want a generator. What business is it of anyone's? What do they care? They just want your money.

BTW, if you F up your attempt with CO, YOU will be F'd up. Like F'd up for life. Things will be way worse for you than they are now. Just keep it in mind.
