I bought a new car this weekend.

I was offered a deal too good to pass up and was satisfied with the seat comfort after a test drive.
But when I drove to/from work Monday & Tuesday, I was in agony. The bucket seat hits my hip in a way that irritates it (2 hip surgeries). Only after I really settled into the seat for my long commute (~40 minutes) did I discover this.

No surprise, the dealership won't take it back. I even went to another comparable dealer to see what they would give me for it -- to break even, I'd have to trade for a one year older car, and still have to pay excise tax on both.

I love the car otherwise. It is the car I've wanted for years, but I can't deal with the pain. I let a "good deal" sway me and didn't take sufficient care to ensure seat comfort. I've tried some seat cushions, of course, but the problem is with the angle/raised side of the bucket seat

I'm furious with myself. The more depressed I get, the more bad decisions I seem to be making.

Can you not change the seat then since you really wanted that model....

I can verify this 100% I've made so many awful decisions while being depressed, I have so many fucking regrets!

I remember someone I knew had an awful seat in his car. He ended up using a ton of blankets and pillows to make it comfortable, maybe that's something you could try?

Like @Vaughn said, can you change the whole seat out? I'm not sure if that's an option or not.

Sorry to hear that. Owning a car sounds freeing but anxiety provoking because of all the problems it can have. Hope you can find a cheaper solution if possible.

You are right. I own a car and while it does give you a bit of freedom it's very expensive to run and I'm always anxious about things going wrong and getting it MOT'd each year.

My best friend, who is an attorney, took it upon himself to call the dealership. He knows how depressed I am and was worried this would drag me down even more.

Well, I got a call from their general manager. He was very friendly, seemed to genuinely feel bad about the seat, and promised to fix the situation, either by just undoing the deal or finding me a different car.

Not sure what will happen, but this time I'll not rush into my decision!

Don't beat yourself up. Non depressed people make mistakes like this too. Don't drag yourself through seven layers of hell for this.

I do the same thing though so I get it.

Well, they let me take a different car for the day to see how it felt. I was much more pleased with it. Too expensive, though. However, they have another with the same seats coming in, and I was fine with the price. So, for the next few days, I'm in the car I purchased, but we'll make the trade when the new one arrives.

Still anxious about whether this will work out, but I know the dealership's general manager and so presume they'll keep their side. If it does, I have one less thing to worry about in life.
