I hate reddit because of the "A person needs help or support or has a legitimate question? Let's downvote or ignore! Oh, a person posted a funny joke! Let's buy them 50 awards, give then 10K upvotes, and make a 50 post long chain reply repeating one stupid joke!".
People would rather cling to someone else's positivity than to create their own positivity.
And I hate how I have no idea how to make criticizing posts that don't get downvoted. For example, there was a game that I liked but it had lots of bad things. I didn't dare to post a thread reviewing the game, because I saw dozens of other similar threads get down-voted no matter whether the posts were long or short or medium, no matter how well they were written or how funny or serious they were. Yet one day someone posted a thread criticizing the game, and it got hundreds of upvotes and replies agreeing with it. And to this day I wonder "Why the hell did every other thread about the game's flaws get downvoted to hell, but that one thread got lots of likes and a few awards?". It made me feel that it doesn't matter what you say or how, only who says it.
I like and dislike Tumblr and Twitter. I've met good people on those places, though I agree that they are echochambers and that they could be better places. If I said something like "I don't give a crap whether you wear a mask or not" I'd lose all my followers and the post would probably be reported and deleted by mods. And I'd never dare to open my mouth about my antinatalist views. But in some ways they can be good places too.
I've met a few people on Reddit, but they have always ghosted me. I wonder if it's because they stalk my user profile and see that I once made a post on a "wrong" subreddit.
I also hate how difficult it is to ignore or block users. I had a guy harass me, I reported them to mods (and so did severak other users) but the mods didn't ban them. There should be a big easy to spot "Click here to block this user, remember that blocking is always better than arguing!" note on top of every post you see.
@KuriGohan&Kamehameha
That "you must be both an antinatalist and a vegan!" thing is really annoying. I'm sorry they banned you. I'm a vegetarian, and I remember one thread on that subreddit where lots of people argued that vegetarians are the scum of earth and "even worse than meat-eaters". It's amazing that Reddit vegans wish people would eat less meat, and when you tell them you stopped eating pork and chicken they tell you that you're the worst person ever since you're a "hypocrite" and you think you're a good person for being a vegetarian. I've literally see threads were vegans praise meat-eaters and demonize vegetarians.
"Being a vegetarian makes you a hypocrite!". Fuck those reddit vegans. Imagine that there's a million millionaires in a line walking on a street passing a poor person. The poor person begs for money from every one of them, but all of the rich guys just ridicule that poor beggar. Finally the last of the millionaires stops, says "I own one million dollars! I'll give half of it to you! Here, have 500 000€!" and the beggar starts complaining that the rich guy only gave "half of his money" instead of all his money. That's what reddit vegans remind me of. They ask you to give up pork, chicken, fish, and when you tell them "Okay, it was really hard for me, but for your sake, I gave up pork, fish, chicken!" they'll get enraged and accuse you of wearing 15 year old leather boots. There's no winning with them, you can never give enough for them. It's like a narcissistic cult. There's no pleasing them.
I have met a sane vegan on Twitter though, she actually agreed that you don't have to go full-vegan to care about animals and you can eat one bacon burger a year and call yourself a vegan.
Well if there was a plant that tasted excellent, could be eaten raw, was available all year around in my country, had all the necessary vitamins and minerals etc., and costed only 1e a kilogram, I could go vegan. Oh wait, I can't because I can't give up hot chocolate and honey and real leather boots. If there are worlds or universes where milk comes from rivers and honey from trees and leather from plants, then I can go vegan. I don't want to eat animals, I want to eat milk and honey and use leather boots.
