I wouldn't worry that much about media attention. 1) it happened in Turkey, Turkey has enough problems not does it really have the power to do more then geoblock 2) none of the news articles mention it 3) People have bigger problems to worry about. These are the same people who don't give a shit about people in our daily lifes. Too self absorbed to care. They'll still be too self absorbed to care.
The issue isn't medical professionals being under equipped they just don't give a shit. They are just there to get a quick check. I've been to 4 psych wards and 3 in the US. At no point did I go man this person actually gives a shit about me. I spent hours with doctors on the other side in different specialities and could see then caring like in oncology. I'd see doctors working hard to give someone more life years and to try and salvage what they could from a terrible situation. In psychiatry that's missing. Never saw it. Arguably the specialty you need someone to care most they just don't. Nurses go on power trips and doctors can't be asked to care. And people wonder why people die from suicide. If you are depressed/suicidal the psych ward is truly pointless.I mean the mass majority of people that think about catching the bus and taking their own life never have it turn into wanting to harm others. However there is always the risks that it does. I don't know how you would ever prove it But I have a personal theory that self harm tends to be the introductory step for some people to transition into wanting to harm others. If we become better at taking care of one another We could see a dramatic decrease in these sorts of incidents. So much of society likes Push these people off to the side and let them suffer in darkness.
The issue Is medical professionals Like psychiatrist and therapist are really really behind and really not very effective at treating most people. We have an epidemic of males 20 to 35 taking their own life being the number one cause of death for this age range. Why this doesn't have similar amounts of funding to something like cancer I have no idea. According to Google 600,000 people died per year from cancer and 700,000 people died from suicide To me they seem relatively comparable.
In addition to medical professionals being woefully under equipped society as a whole camp properly support friends family and social circles. We spend so much time over driving the economy we barely have any time to see friends and family. We are so isolated from one another we can't properly take care of one another like we could in the past.
For a lot of people the only value that they see in themselves is their job and they tie their personal value to what job they hold. The reality is is you are not your job and occupation. These two things really shouldn't be linked together as strongly as they are.
I'm reminded of a Tutorial for a video game ranking system and during the tutorial the guy explains that you are not your rank and to just enjoy your time no matter where you end up. It's silly but such a thing can apply to the job market and profession as well.
I hope someday we really have the ability to properly take care of one another And can take the time to develop relationships with friends and family instead of this tremendously isolated culture that we live in for so many people. Although I'm gonna be honest I fully expect society to continue to ignore Issues surrounding suicide as much as possible All the way up until the very last moment when people become self-destructive.
Once you look into some of the statistics and understand the numbers you realize that at some point society will Have to deal with these things at some point As it's just going to keep increasing, But hey at least until that day comes we can be happy to know That shareholder profits are up And the country's gross domestic product is doing good.
