Hello! I'm in the USA trying to buy a firearm. My state doesn't require any kind of license to do so. I am currently diagnosed with depression and in therapy. I haven't been booked in any kind of hospital or prison. I'm wondering how deep background checks tend to go with firearm dealers. Would they see these things from my insurance and possibly withhold a firearm? I'm 22 so age would not be a problem.

Could anyone with experience tell me how it normally goes purchasing it and going through a background check?

It does depend by state but I purchased one with an involuntary psych hospitalization within 6 months of the purchase, even, and insurance isn't what they'd be getting information from. The concern is really just if you're a threat to others, using the gun for crime, etc.

To my knowledge, they wouldn't have access to your medical records in regards to a diagnosis. If you have nothing criminal or involuntary, you should be fine.
