Any one who knows a lot about euthanasia laws? I am pretty sure that in Holland (The Netherlands) and Belgium they will put you down if you are depressed (And have been for a while of course) - it's not like you have to be seriously disabled or in constant physical pain. I think they are even able to prescribe you some kind of "suicide pills", so that you are able to go out on your "own terms". Instead of spending years on this site debating whether to throw yourself of a cliff or hang yourself, why not look into euthanasia? It might cost a couple thousand dollars/pounds etc. but it might be worth it.

yes in Belgium euthanasia is an option for mental illness patients, even for children 12 years old. For many of people here it's not an option, 1) they don't want to tell about suicide to their family. 2) traveling maybe too hard if you are not healthy 3) money .
Maybe those who are able to do euthanasia are not here, they just do it.

Sure, I understand. But why do you have to tell your parents about it, if your are an adult? Can they just find out after? There must be some discretion laws. Do you know if people from another country can apply?

I know that in Switzerland it is possible to euthanize without telling your family, but you have to go through 2-3 consultation to prove you decision, and the other problem that mental illness is not enough for dignitas.
If this is true, then it means that it is easier in Switzerland

It seems possible in Switzerland via the organization called Pegasos, but it's quit expensive and I don't think it's possible to do without your family finding out since you have to plan your funeral and everything. The best thing would be for some doctor to prescribe you some lethal pills - I'm pretty sure it's been done in Holland and/or Belgium.

Speaking of Pegasos, I'm in the process of filling out their rather lengthy application. I'm just trying to see as far as I can get.
It has actually allowed me to check off mental illness as a reason.
The fee I'm seeing so far is 11000 USD.
If they were to approve, it seems like family is required for these type of things. So, so far I just put that I'm estranged from family.
I'm seeing as far as I can get with this...
But if this process was so easy, this forum probably would not exist. 😢

I can't read the rest of the article due to paywall but I always get mad when people say that suicide is the "easy way out."

Brother of assisted suicide sisters hits out at Swiss clinic that let them take 'the easy way out'

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...r-voluntary-suicide-switzerland-b2046613.html
Agree, it's absolutely sick and twisted isn't it? Coming from the mouth of their own brother.
Just what is the right way? Should families show up at their grandmother's death bed with pliers and rusty tools to make sure her last hours are as grueling as possible? "We love you so much grandma. You didn't think your ass was gonna get the easy way out did you!? Have some of our love pinches! There you go, what a champ! A PROPER death!"

Sadly it seems even with a lot of money the process of euthanasia seems like it has a lot of hurdles and is probably not easy for non-residents. Hopefully the MAID thing in Canada is a trend that makes its way to the USA soon.

Did you have to pay the log in fee then already? "Check off" means you could choose it as a reason for wanting to do the VAD?

Check off meaning whatever diagnosis you have. There's a box where you can enter that information.
No. There is no log in fee with them. There was a prompt asking for a donation, but I declined. All of this money these people are making, and they want donations? Smh.
Without donating, the site still allowed me to continue to fill out the application. I do notice that at the end of the lengthy application, they request the initial payment of 5000 USD. I think that payment covers administrative fees, medical consults. The second half of the 5000 comes afterwards, I think.
That covers the euthanasia and funeral costs.
When I get to the part that asks for the initial fee, I'm going to request to speak to someone to ask questions first on what are the chances of approval.
And if it's that easy, that would cover me shocked.
Throughout the application they ask about family background, I just lied and said I'm estranged from the few relatives I have. I'll see how far that gets me.
I'm not comfortable letting the few ppl I know irl about this, so I hope bringing or informing a relative prior to this is not a requirement.

Thank you. On the Log in page it says "You need to join Pegasos and become a supporter in order to be able to log in." And under the "Become a supporter" section: "
A supporter subscription (CHF100 per annum) to Pegasos is the most effective way you can show your appreciation (in the here and now) for the work that we do.

A supporter subscription is also the necessary first step if you think you may want to request a VAD (at some point in the future)."

I'm not comfortable letting the few ppl I know irl about this, so I hope bringing or informing a relative prior to this is not a requirement.
In case you din't see it, it says in the FAQs: "If you do not have a family member or friend willing or able to come with you to Pegasos, we can suggest alternate arrangements after your VAD application has been approved."

I've looked into it, only realistic options are Germany and Switerland, both seem to say you need a mental illness to qualify and Switzerland seems to be very expensive so not sure if its a non starter

Edit: I see now they let you fill in information already without an account apparently.
That's the part that kind of confused me. Does that mean they won't take application seriously or approve unless payment is made for a subscription🤔?
Am I crazy or does it sound like a fancy bribe?
It's early where I'm at, so my brain is not working yet.

you wouldn't be able to contact them unless you were a supporter

I read it again. I'm not sure at what stage you are, but I think MyChoiceAlone is right that you can't submit the form unless you become a supporter.

Not Germany. Euthanasia is not legal here and the physician assisted suicide has no real regulations set up either.
