Following a break up a few years ago, my self-esteem gradually, then completely dissipated. A constant feeling of low self worth has not only resulted in complete isolation, but has created an insurmountable barrier to doing things that helped maintain the person I once was.

I'm wondering how others have gone about creating a new sense of self-worth? For me, being in a long-term, close relationship was very important, but that's simply not feasible again when I have irretrievably lost so much that once made me.

A long term relationship requires an investment by both people. The fact that you had a long term relationship indicates that you had something of value to contribute or it wouldn't have been long term. You may start to give yourself credit for that which is in you that contributed to that. This recognition can give you a foundation to build on for the future.
