• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Why a bowline knot for the anchor point? I've read others saying to use a snuggle hitch.

The hangman's knot was designed for long drop executions. Unless you know where to get a gallows, use a slip knot with no drop.
Please read...

The hangman's knot or hangman's noose (also known as a collar during Elizabethan times) is a well-known knot most often associated with its use in hanging. For a hanging, the knot of the rope is typically placed under or just behind the left ear. As the blow when the condemned drops to the end of the rope is supposed to break the neck (for modern "long-drop" hangings), this knot can add additional striking force against the head and neck. The knot is non-jamming but tends to resist attempts to loosen it.

The noose knot is for long drop.
You need something that slides easily.

I thought it would be interesting to add a little more info to the topic (this is one of my favorites about this method)

What kind of rope?

Static rope: is a low-elongation rope that is designed to stretch minimally when placed under load. Static ropes have braided core, so they don't stretch.

Static rope materials:

1) Polyester
2) Polypropylene

Where to buy?

Stores for outdoor sports/ camping/ nautical, hardware stores, stores that sell rescue and safety equipment (or for working at heights)

I hanged for about a minute or so (can't tell it exactly). It felt very uncomfortable on my neck. I didn't use any padding. I started panicking and went back on the chair.
Hey, medically and scientifically speaking, there is no recorded case of a person who is still conscious after 1 minute after full suspension. Are you sure that you hanged for 1 minute ? Where exactly did you tie the knot on the neck ?

Is there a problem if my rope is semi-static?
Not really, you just need to keep in mind that since it has some elasticity, it can stretch a little. So you'll need to carefully calculate the space between the floor and your feet once you apply weight. Try tying the rope and pulling with your weight with both hands to see how much it stretches.

just my two cents: static rope made of artificial fibre is not the best option when hanging is intended (for plenty of reasons we can elaborate on in a new post)!Long story short: nothing beats natural fiber like hemp or jute as long as the rope is properly lubricated (what we can discuss in a separate post, too,of course)

There is another thing that I'm puzzled about my plan, is that my anchor point is an horizontal, square column, but it's big, and I'm not sure if the bowline knot will go around a square structure properly. I've searched for some knots that go around square surfaces, but I don't think they were made for the intent of hanging something vertically.
Maybe it doesnt matter if the surface is square or round?

Now I'm curious, would you care to explain why? Mine is polyamide

Yes, sure, more information is always welcome! I suggested those materials since they can support a lot of weight. That way, it works for everyone; there are taller people, more muscular people, or people who train and are heavier.

Thanks!

The structure that I am going to use is also rectangular, the wooden beams of the roof of the storage room... For the anchor point I was going to use the 'overhand loop knot'. Just because it's strong and easy to make.

Hi, a few questions:

1: I know we use a Slipknot for the knot on our neck, but what about the anchor point? Snuggle hitch?
2: Would an Ethernet cable be a good enough rope for partial or full suspension, either is fine, or should I go and buy another one?
3: I saw on the other partial thread saying those long metal rods in closets is a good idea. I have a huge closet, the metal rod is huge as well, the problem is this apartment is old, probably >40 years old. I do think it could hold me long enough though, I'm not even 60kg and I've done chin ups on it before, asking just in case however

Thank you all in advance

I'm a little overweight, about 120 kg. Can I still go for full suspension hanging

I always wonder if it is possible to somehow set up a hanging attempt, balance on a stool etc, secure the knot then take something to make yourself pass-out so you will drop down already unconscious. Have you thought about this? Maybe it's daft. But at least it might bypass having to consciously kick the stool away?
This won't make you pass out before but it can help you gain the guts. Take a Benadryl then have a few drinks. After a while take another Benadryl and have a few more drinks. When I was struggling with substance ab$se I would drink a beer, take a pill, drink another, take a pill, and finish it off with one more beer and I would be so incoherent that I probably would have done anything
