Discussion Elliott Smith: Suicide or Murder?

Do you guys think Elliott Smith really killed himself by stabbing him self in the heart or do you think he was murdered? I just think it takes a lot of fucking guts to be able to do that. With any suicide method at his disposal, it just seems weird he would choose that, unless there was a moment of desperation where he just said fuck it or he was experiencing a psychotic break.

I would think yes some sort of psychotic break. I can't imagine pulling that off otherwise. Circumstances are suspicious but not impossible I'd say.

Suicide by stabbing oneself in the heart is a gruesome and tragic method that is thankfully rare. While there are no official statistics on the number of suicides that involve this method, it is estimated that it accounts for a small percentage of all suicides.

I would think yes some sort of psychotic break. I can't imagine pulling that off otherwise. Circumstances are suspicious but not impossible I'd say.

Apparently it happened during an argument with his girlfriend which makes it suspicious but I could also see him being in a psychotic episode and that being his breaking point and deciding fuck it out of anger and desperation apparently he was exhibiting psychotic symptoms before his death

Probably a murder tho this based on what a previous best friend said to me. This friend often talked about him to me as he was one of his hyper-fixations. What he told me the other marks don't make sense to be self harm marks as he self harmed by burning and also that they on places that people usually don't cut on so they could be instead seen as defensive wounds. Also no hesitation marks where found and he wasn't on any substances at the time making it feel even more implausible this was a suicide. Girlfriend is also sus with how she pulled out the knife and how she acted with police. The friend also said about a previous incident between the girlfriend and Elliott where she was chasing him with a knife???? tho I can't find any info on this myself so maybe that isn't true at all.

I think likely he was murdered. Along with what others have already mentioned, the wounds were vertical, he was stabbed through his clothing, his note left behind on a post it was incredibly vague, and I believe his name was misspelled on it. However… given how tragic his life was and how much he struggled I think the explanation of a psychotic break sort of makes sense, but the shady circumstances surrounding his death make me think he was killed by Jennifer Chiba.

I definitely think it's very suspicious but if what people say about him being in psychosis is true, then I could see him doing it without hesitation.

Apparently the crime scene investigators misspelled what was on the note and later corrected it, but her pulling out the knife is what is so so suspicious.
