I found the above report regarding the combined effects of ethyl alcohol intoxication and carbon monoxide poisoning. It states that the alcohol increased the survival for the rats at 2,400ppm CO, and extended the tolerance time at 2,400ppm and 3,000ppm.
The conclusion states that the presence of ethyl alcohol during CO poisoning increases blood alcohol to higher than expected levels and provides a significant degree of survival protection.
However, the first thing that comes up on google search states that alcohol significantly exacerbates the dangers of carbon monoxide exposure. Because alcohol acts as a central nervous system depressant and induces deep sleep, it prevents individuals from waking up or reacting to the early warning signs of CO poisoning. Combined they exponentially increase the risk of brain damage and fatality.
I can't access any sedatives other than alcohol. I think i will still use alcohol, as i'm not brave enough to attempt without a sedative. I'm just concerned now about it "providing a significant degree of survival protection". Do you think as long as i get the CO ppm high enough, the protection the alcohol provides, should not be a problem?
