My other thread in another forum talks about my actual hospital stay. I was in and out of it, got more sleep on pain meds or after the procedure that helped get rid of most of the pain. Anyway, it was post-procedure where I got the most sleep including one 3-hour stretch of solid sleep, during which I had this wonderful dream with a twist at the end.

In the dream I was wandering around with other people and suddenly we were being attacked from the sky. I couldn't see everything but there were flying cars with someone driving them and they were shooting at us. It was hard on the ground to fight them, we could only fight what they sent to the ground, and they had more flying cars than we had planes to fight back in the sky.

We had various military branches fighting, all over the world, and it seemed like some kind of alien invasion. I was not military, I was part of the civilian fighting force doing what I could. I don't know that I wielded any actual authority but I seemed to have access to some people. I don't know for sure if there were any super-heroes or anything but some people seemed to have costumes non-military costumes.

There was a tech company developing a prototype levitation device that you could secure on your body but it was buggy. Somehow I was one of the test subjects and I grabbed one and immediately went flying up in the air. No ability to control, just floating there. One of our planes shot at one of the alien cars and it started crashing headed towards me. I shifted and dodged it but touched it as it went by and realized it was very light and I actually caught it. I had no super powers so I knew it was just really light OR maybe a side-effect of my levitation device meant when I touched something I could levitate it too. Anyway, I was able to take it and throw that at another alien car and knock that one out. I had to figure out how to turn my device off so I could go back to the ground and tell the General what I had learned.

The tech company did not want to give these to civilians or military for use in the war. They said they weren't ready yet. They kept stalling... but the General I told, she and others started working to change that. Meanwhile I went to someone else and weirdly asked if they had figured out how to give people powers yet, at least flight. I mentioned the Legion of Super-Heroes and their flight rings (a DC comics thing) as if it was real and common knowledge. I still don't recall seeing any evidence of actual super heroes though.

Meanwhile, the General won her case apparently because they started drafting people to use new flying tech that was more manipulable, and I was in the group using them. It was difficult to control flying at first but as more of us got the hang of it we started to hold our own in the war. I had another lucky stroke though... Being able to fly meant I could chase now, not just wait floating.. so I chased after one of the flying alien cars that was engaged in battle with a plane, and I caught the car with one hand while ripping the driver out with the other. That resulted in two discoveries.

We never had wreckage to study of the aliens because any time we defeated a flying car it would self-destruct and try to take out other targets. But this time I had ripped a driver out of the car before that happened. #1 discovery was the drivers were robots... non-sentient at that, so someone or something else was controlling them. #2, though, was something I found under the seat that looked very familiar. I dug it out and realized it was very similar to our flying tech and even had the same manufacturing markings on it! I immediately sought out the General and interrupted her. She was pissed, as she had a right to be under the circumstances being interrupted... but once I showed her what I'd found that changed.

There was a time-jump in the dream. We had obviously won the war but I was talking to someone about how we didn't really know what happened. The government had kept some bits separate. I didn't know if the aliens were being supplied by the same tech company OR if they stole it OR if they were never aliens at all OR if it was maybe a time-travel thing... In any event, we'd won the war and all was well. The governments of the world and military also allowed some of us to keep our special flying gear and use them to be helpful around like pseudo super-heroes. I was telling someone about how you had to practice a lot to get good at flying.

So, then I was flying around in the dream... just flying... feeling the wind cool on my face... and I realized... I was feeling the wind on my face from the A/C in my hospital room and my vision of flying over the city turned fuzzy and I started to see the hospital room through the haze, but I didn't want to wake up so I concentrated and went back to flying in the sky... I knew someone was in my room but I didn't want to talk to them yet. I wanted to keep flying... but I eventually realized I needed to talk to the nurse who came to see me and I slowly came back to reality...

After that nurse left and had taken my vitals... I shit you not... I closed my eyes and went back into the dream and continued flying a while. That was... surprising.
