Quoted from Charlotte Bronte's: Jane Eyre.
I've noticed that a few members talk about regretting their former actions. I wonder how many of us have tried to apply this logic. As in- stopping yourself before doing a questionnable action/ saying something questionnable- because we know we'll regret it later.
One of the best responses to a highly controversial post here once (I think a controversial political opinion) was by someone who said they were sure they were going to be banned from the site some day. It was so clever- because it demonstrated they wanted to respond in a volatile way but knew they'd get into trouble for doing so.
I suppose it's what we'd call having a filter on speech. But then- it can work for our actions too. How well thought through have your actions been? Has the anguish of regret helped you to avoid future mistakes?
The most stupid thing is- I've actually checked myself before saying something insensitive in the past and yet- still gone ahead and then, immediately regretted it.
I suppose there is the argument that we should have free speech and maybe it's more honest to express what we truly feel although, I suppose we need a balance.
Regarding actions, it's more that I've regretted being complacent, when I should have taken more care.
I am quite careful to avoid things I'll likely regret though now. How about you? Have you learnt to avoid regret/ remorse by modifying your behaviour?
