According to lostallhope.com shooting yourself in the head with shotgun is one of the least painful and most trustworthy ways to die. The pain will last only a couple of nanoseconds. Then you're free. God,I'd love to have shotgun right now. No preparations, just one thought and one action. Unfortunately I don't have easy access to guns.

If it's positioned inside of the mouth instead under the chin and with the proper ammo it will be fine.

Well, at least you will time to think about if it's what you want. We're all still here largely, at least until we leave.

It probably won't, but a disfigured body would traumatize your loved ones. Also don't you want a few moments of peace, the feeling of drifting to sleep before you die? Before I was truly suicidal I would keep on questioning what's the point of life if we'll all die and won't remember anything, would read books about digital/bio robotic immortality, and my mom would and does always say it's having fun at this moment that really does matter, I never could fully get my head around it other than imploring these days "I had a good life, you gave me a great one, I've been to 33 countries, have done everything, but I'm no longer enjoying life, no longer enjoying the moment, just let me go" but if that is true and it seems so now my moment is gone, no need to put yourself through that much fear and shock just at your last moments.

The person already replied getting the method is not in the cards for him and just causing them more suffering to think about it.

Feel you, I wish I was American so bad. I find it funny, because women are way less likely to commit suicide with firearms, but they would be the perfect method for me. If I had access to a gun at least once, I'd pull the trigger with no hesitation. That's how much I wanted that to be my method.

No it can't hurt, it's too fast.

Of course if you shoot your lower jaw only it would hurt a lot, but if you aim for the head there wouldn't be any pain.

Absolutely not

If someone aimed even near the brain stem with pretty much any ammo shell, It's a wrap.

A lot of suicide gun survivors only mention the screams of the people who find them and the loud sound of the shot. Oddly nothing about the pain.

A lot of unsuccessful jumpers don't seem to remember being in pain either. The shock can cancel out the pain

how so, it's the freest country on earth
Free to die, slowly, from either inaccessible or unaffordable healthcare. Not free to kill yourself. Our "universal" healthcare gets you in the front door of a Dr's office & then they kick you out the back door, with no assistance.

I guess it does not pain you if you died immediately after. But you will have tremendous mental pain when in the process of pulling the trigger. You will be disfigured for sure and will traumatized your loved ones like someone above said too.

People who live in the USA, honestly can't say for methods they are not super privileged(I am American too.)

If you have no serious criminal record, you can easily buy a shotgun or pistol(a tad harder), N is extremely likely to reach you for the cheapest of any country or continent(N. America), and the jungle will sell you 10 bottles of SN to your doorstep legally if you want them.

A ton of countries truly have it bad, in that sense.

No. It is one of the most humane ways to kill yourself. Some considerations: you can forget about any intentions of an open-casket funeral. And anyone—especially your family—walking in on the aftermath would be traumatized. Otherwise, a shotgun is the ideal way to euthanize yourself in terms of lethality and effectiveness.

Firstly don't think any is around to speak from experience, secondly I wouldn't think you would feel anything, and if there was anything to feel the sound if the shotgun would be overwhelming, personally I'd say shooting yourself in the head is actually a very humane way to go, in terms of effectiveness and probably zero pain,

I tried it on a couple of different occasions... it only hurt for a fraction of a second. It kinda tickles

There's a small chance if you shoot yourself, that you could fail.... obviously with a shotgun the chances are insanely small if you do it correctly. From what I gather the best way to shoot yourself is eating the gun and shooting your brain stem. One of the better gun methods that I've heard of is to drink a shot of SN, then shoot yourself... it's just a little extra insurance policy to prevent that small chance that the gun leaves you injured/disfigured.

So hike into the forest. Hopefully the wolves will make dinner of us.

Yeah, dead bodies are not pleasant objects, no matter what the cause of death is. I think it's a bit of a farce to imagine that there are ways to find a loved one's dead body that are not traumatizing. Dead people do not look "peacefully asleep," even if the death felt peaceful to the deceased. They look dead. They smell dead. They get very horrible very fast.

If you don't want to traumatize your relatives more than necessary, don't kill yourself where they are likely to find you. If you live someplace where hunting with a shotgun is legal, dress yourself in camouflage, go out into the woods during hunting season, and shoot yourself out there. The gunshot won't attract attention, your body will be hard to see, and even if you're found quickly it will take quite a long time to get you to the hospital. With luck, no one will spot you until you're skeletonized. If you live in the U.S.'s Bayou country, your body might even be eaten by alligators. (Not a lot of wolves running around outside of protected park areas.)

Having you missing for an indefinite period of time will also traumatize your relatives, but there's really no way out that won't. Honestly, if you live to 105 and die of complications of dementia, that will traumatize them too. Death is gross and horrible and people instinctively react to it with dread and terror. Those of us who are fortunate enough to live in places where seeing dead people doesn't happen every day can allow ourselves to imagine that our deceased loved ones are lying there all peaceful and beautiful like Snow White in her glass coffin. It's not like that, though.

If you're going to ctb, just pick a method that maximizes lethality and minimizes suffering for you. Don't try to make your loved ones feel okay about your death though, because they won't.

Edit: For the record, I don't think people should be compelled to stay alive in order to avoid upsetting their relatives. Particularly since we're all eventually going to die and upset our relatives anyway.

In a perfect scenario the forest would work. I'm going to simply hang myself in the backyard garage and my wife will find me. It's not the perfect way but it's the simplest.
