Most people would have you believe that people in sex work need to be saved or are problems to deal with, but that couldn't be further from the truth. We must remind ourselves that sex workers are one of the most stigmatised groups in our society and are often deliberately denied a voice by policy makers who claim to be advocating for them. Only through decriminalisation will sex workers be less stigmatised and feel comfortable in reporting crimes (they're targeted because the idea is that they're not seen as being on par with society, this was very prevalent in a case that was famous in the UK, the Yorkshire Ripper) to the police and advocating their rights as workers.
It's unconventional to say to you OP, that if you are genuinely happy, no one can take that from you. I would be more concerned about your safety of course.
I understand about the drug being a heavy mask, to not feel the feeling you get while being you (sober) it's just if it's a drug that is dangerous for you on a daily basis, that as you search for a higher, high, it could potentially lead to an OD. That would be the biggest thing to focus on.
Man, I would not worry about the age, you're my age, and that ain't old! How far technology has come now, you could set up an OnlyFans, record your own content from home, work from home, there's so much to it. It's what you want from life, with what you have, then what you feel you HAVE to do. The environment you are in and the people you are around controls your confidence then what you actually do for a living. You just gotta put yourself out there. Be safe!
NOTE - I am not a director or work in the industry, I am a shmuck from the UK.
ME in the adult industry LOL.
