I literally have days where I suddenly feel happy for no reason. There's no particular accomplishment or event.

Everything suddenly feels fun, and I become quite impulsive. I end up making unnecessary purchases and get so excited that I do SH. (Cutting, sometimes I'll suddenly stab myself with scissors or deliberately bump into furniture...)
So excited that I can't sit still. I keep pacing around the room repeatedly or impulsively decide to go out. I might go have dessert, watch a movie, or do something else.

What's strange is that I was diagnosed with depression a few years ago... and it's true that I usually feel lethargic. But sometimes I have these bursts of happiness. Do you think my depression is getting better? I'm feeling quite confused because I've been so energetic since this morning.

Yeah, seeing it written down like this, it really does seem weird what the hell

First off...profile pic is the best!!! Basil is my boi. :3

Secondly, I would say I feel that to some degree, too. Although, I never sh while I feel happy, so maybe that's odd from my perspective. Also, I was taught to be frugal, so impulse buying never really was something I struggled with, but I do get that feeling of just utter giddiness. It feels great! Tbh, kinda feeling that rn!

But it's not that often. And I would say it really isn't that strong where I can't suppress it. Like, I feel it for sure, but like I also know I shouldn't go around acting like a different person so I just hold it in I guess? Except for on the internet. If I'm happy, I'm a-happy. :3

I'm sure other people will have better answers than mine, lol. TOT

Right? Sometimes I feel so happy it's like I'm not myself... I was just curious if anyone else feels the same way.

is it joy or mania?

look into it. according to google, experiencing an elevated mood or an exaggerated sense of well-being can be sign of a manic episode.

I'm not sure. I looked it up, and maybe the symptoms seem similar, but I think this needs to last for a few days, or weeks? Sometimes it goes away within a few hours. I don't think this is consistent.

And I think these feelings started only this year, so I'm not certain. So far, I'm still feel good, but.

Look up BPD euphoria. Similar to mania/hypomania, and I would sometimes feel it during self harm/want to self harm because of it too! Rush of endorphins, goes away after a few hours usually. BPD has mood swings a bit like bipolar (esp depending on your BPD type). Look into Quiet BPD aka Self Destructive BPD. That's my type and tends to have self harming tendencies.

On top of this, I have diagnosed persistent depression, and it makes my euphoric episodes happen at a lesser frequency than some BPDers.

I can actually make myself happy quite easily but it's all built on delusion and ignorance for me. It's also far too temporary for my liking, like a window made of the thinnest paper.

I can also break myself out of happiness quite easily by remembering that I don't deserve it anyway.

No, I am unable to feel happy over things in life. I'd only feel happy if I knew that I could do something to kill myself successfully

I can sometimes be okay or happy suddenly, mostly if i get motivation to develop my game then I am able to constantly work on it and be alright with life or even excited about making more progress on it.

I have these kinda days too, but without the "impulsive and sh" part
Most of the time due to my mind remembering funny events, or even making up a funny story
My mind is both a blessing and a curse

In these days I tend to be more productive and enjoy my accomplishments

Yes I can relate and I don't think it's being manic. Sometimes you just feel happy, I don't know if you need to have a medical term for it. For instance, one day I just thought to myself "fuck it, I'm a survivor" and then felt a bit better that evening. Well, it didn't last long, but yes, I do get bursts of happiness where I have energy to do stuff.

Yeah it's called euphoria. It's unfortunate because it's one of the only few moments where I feel invincible and above my misery, but then the reality checks come back and swallow me whole

Yes, I have these "mania's" too, sometimes last a few hours or max a few days. I have bpd.

Yes, huge crash after that.

I also feel very impulsive, just crazy, and want to take risks or hurt myself. I tend to be wreckless, driving too fast, drink alcohol in the morning, eat crap or punch myself or something.

I see. It must be tough.
There are a few people said this is manic, but since I haven't been diagnosed, it's hard to say for sure.
Thanks for sharing your experience

Hey op not to diagnose you but it sound more like euphoria then mania. Mania last days while euphoria only last for the moment.
