ethnically I am somali and i just don't feel proud about it, it's one of the reasons why I want to kill myself

Most people aren't going to care about that. Some people like facial features associated with Somalians and most people are more likely to focus on aspects of culture when thinking of Somalians rather than the state of their country. At the end of the day, there is nothing wrong with being of Somalia ancestry. I am most familiar with two of my ethnicities and one of them is from a developing country and I generally tend to find that most people tend to be most interested in that part of my ethnicity compared to all the others.

I'd say many people don't like their height in any ethnicity. There's often something we don't like in ourselves or in our culture regardless of what ethnicity we are. I guess we just have different pool of characteristics we can pick from to complain about. ;)

I want to tell you there is nothing wrong with looking "swart". It matters what person you are. What you do, how you think, behave, treat others and yourself. I wish you a lot of self-acceptance and good people around you.

Nobody ever guessed my ethnicity right , I get confused for Hispanic/Mexican sometimes but that's about it. I'm sort of white and brown a bit so it's really hard to guess. Also the typical stereotypes that are given to Syrians don't apply to me so I don't care at all. I'm neither religious or a bomber lol.

I think it's not all about ethnicity only. The most important part is to adapt and act like "natives" of the country where you live now.

They only vary because they're controlled by a small number of genes that don't have a significant impact on your 'human-ness' in any way. There is no cognitive difference between ethnic or racial groups (which are largely constructed and artificial, as human physical and genetic difference is on a gradient but largely miniscule, there are no concrete differentiation), and you're not intrinsically bound to whatever cultural aspects you don't like, especially since you're diaspora.

I suppose I'm relieved to be white british in the UK. One less thing for children to pick on when I was young. Although- they found other things- being overweight and ugly. Being from Canada, our country is focused a lot on inclusion, which is great. But it's getting to the point here that we are marginalized because of the countries need to please everyone. It's like we're being forgotten about. People new to the country get tons of handouts to help them get established when they come here, but many of us are struggling for housing and putting food on our tables. We are taxed to death here. We don't get handouts.

I also hate that if we are proud to be white, we are instantly called a racist. Literally every other ethnicity is allowed to be proud except for us. Coincidentally, tonssssss of other ethnicities are racist towards us, but are never, ever accused of being racist. That's just not a thing.

I don't think it's fair. That's my opinion though. I'm not here for an argument so please don't bother.

It's crazy how white coucasian pepole have modified so much history to have been seen as the "good guys" that every person on this thread that doesn't like their ethnicity doesn't because they are used of this perception that has been installed into society.
I have immigrant parents, and since i was little i've been made fun of my origin so much that i started to hate it, so much i forced my partents to not speak their native langauge anymore, and now i don't know how to speak in that language anymore because of this, and i regret it so much. I know it's kinda usless to say this since i look white but hating your own ethnicity just powers this perception, and i think it's fine to hate how you look (i do too), but you should put some barriers and realize that not every person of your ethnicity enter in the racial steriotypes set by others and if you think they still do just realize you are not your race, you are yourself, be less harsh on yourself on things you can't control.

How do you know? You are shielded by your privilege from a lot of the bullshit that people of colour have to go through. Also, being white isn't an ethnicity. It's a race. Nobody is going to go after a white person who is proud of their ethnic roots, such as if they are of Irish or French descent. There is a difference between "white pride" and showing appreciation for your ethnic roots. My mother is an immigrant and she has had to face all sorts of racist bullshit while living here. She has struggled financially throughout basically the entirety of my life, so I have no clue where these "handouts" are. She probably would have loved to have had some considering the amount of times she's struggled to pay rent. There are no double standards against you. Stop pretending to be oppressed.

i dont hate being mexican, but i also recognize that im very privileged given that im half whitexican and i grew up in a predominantly mexican community. but i don't blame people who hold negative attitudes against themselves, most first world countries promote the dominant group one way or another and it's easy for minorities to internalize those sorts of notions. it's easy to say like "just don't place so much value on it" but it's probably much harder to actually rewire your brain to do that.

Here's a prime example, and there's no arguing on this one. I applied for a job that I had the exact qualifications for. I was told to my face that unfortunately they were only hiring a person of colour for that position and handed me my resume back. That's white privilege right?

So sorry you had to go through that. And happiness is relative, even if you are in objectively better position than me at life, you can still be more unhappy and depressed so you pov is totally valid.. But a question, would you prefer being of any other ethnicity than what you are right now?
