Ethnicity is a social construct. There is, for instance, no magical difference between a Somali or an Afar, an Arab or Kurd, or a Brit or a Frenchman.
You're not tied to your ethnicity. It doesn't inherently imbue you with any qualities, good or bad.
You say: "I am associated with a country widely regarded as the most corrupt, most poor and worse in so many categories".
This is not an inherent feature of being Somali or even of Somalia itself, though. It's a result of historical contingency and Somalia's marginalised position within the global world-system. There's very little difference between humans, and physical differences in, say, skin tone or eye colour, are very superficial. They only vary because they're controlled by a small number of genes that don't have a significant impact on your 'human-ness' in any way. There is no cognitive difference between ethnic or racial groups (which are largely constructed and artificial, as human physical and genetic difference is on a gradient but largely miniscule, there are no concrete differentiation), and you're not intrinsically bound to whatever cultural aspects you don't like, especially since you're diaspora.
