Lie, lie, lie - Life is a lie

Here's what the German industrial metal band Rammstein had to say about it several years ago...

Lyrics + translation

We're all living in Amerika.
We're all living in America.

Amerika ist wunderbar.
America is wonderful.

We're all living in Amerika,
We're all living in America,

Amerika, Amerika.
America, America.

We're all living in Amerika.
We're all living in America.

Amerika ist wunderbar.
America is wonderful.

We're all living in Amerika,
We're all living in America,

Amerika, Amerika.
America, America.

Wenn getanzt wird, will ich führen,
When there is dancing, I want to lead,

auch wenn ihr euch alleine dreht.
even if you are spinning alone.

Lasst euch ein wenig kontrollieren.
Let yourself be checked a little.

Ich zeige euch, wie es richtig geht.
I'll show you how to do it properly.

Wir bilden einen lieben Reigen,
We form a lovely dance,

die Freiheit spielt auf allen Geigen.
freedom plays on all violins.

Musik kommt aus dem Weißen Haus
Music comes from the White House

und vor Paris steht Micky Maus.
and Mickey Mouse stands in front of Paris.

We're all living in Amerika.
We're all living in America.

Amerika ist wunderbar.
America is wonderful.

We're all living in Amerika,
We're all living in America,

Amerika, Amerika.
America, America.

Ich kenne Schritte, die sehr nützen,
I know steps that are very helpful

und werde euch vor Fehltritt schützen.
and will protect you from missteps.

Und wer nicht tanzen will am Schluss,
And whoever doesn't want to dance at the end,

weiß noch nicht, dass er tanzen muss.
doesn't know yet that he has to dance.

Wir bilden einen lieben Reigen,
We form a lovely dance,

ich werde euch die Richtung zeigen.
I will show you the direction.

Nach Afrika kommt Santa Claus
Santa Claus is coming to Africa

und vor Paris steht Micky Maus.
and Mickey Mouse stands in front of Paris.

We're all living in Amerika.
We're all living in America.

Amerika ist wunderbar.
America is wonderful.

We're all living in Amerika,
We're all living in America,

Amerika, Amerika.
America, America.

We're all living in Amerika.
We're all living in America.

Coca-Cola, Wonderbra.
Coca-Cola, Wonderbra.

We're all living in Amerika,
We're all living in America,

Amerika, Amerika.
America, America.

This is not a love song.
This is not a love song.
I don't sing my mother tongue.
No, this is not a love song.

We're all living in Amerika.
We're all living in America.

Amerika ist wunderbar.
America is wonderful.

We're all living in Amerika,
We're all living in America,

Amerika, Amerika.
America, America.

We're all living in Amerika.
We're all living in America.

Coca-Cola, sometimes war.
Coca-Cola, sometimes war.

We're all living in Amerika,
We're all living in America,

Amerika, Amerika.
America, America.

op i can tell you are American by using words like soul!

that is a very American belief and part of what is wrong with the country.

the concept is man made to try and control and there is no such thing. it comes from dogma.

I don't hate America per se, but I hate how they have to stick their dick in everything politically. To me it's clear they're hell bent on remaining the #1 world power.

That's a pretty absurd demand. No, I don't hate America. One reason is that I have the right to say things like "I hate America!" without having to worry that I'll be arrested and jailed, or defenestrated, for it.

I'm actually grateful that I was born here, I wish my life was different but Americans tend to be faster when it comes to acceptance of things while most countries even if they're developed tend to be quite backwards. We also have lots of freedom of speech laws. I wouldn't survive if I was born anywhere else because I'm weak, at least in America there's a lot more resources for us than in other countries to become successful with the least amount of effort.

well, i think there are def a few aspects I appreciate. 100% a better place than my home country. way more freedom. but no matter what, it's still so disappointing that the ppl in power are almost all money or power-hungry and hardly act for the people. the system is corrupted no matter how you look at it. i hate how slow and aggravating the gov system is, never taking an active role in changing lives or even properly running basic government agencies. i hate all the loopholes too.

Tbh, I was kinda joking. I don't hate America either. But it's funny to me how defensive Americans become when you insult their country. If you're poor in America you are effectively treated like a subhuman and all your precious freedoms are nothing but scribbles on a piece of paper.

I'm not saying America is the most evil country on earth (certainly not right now) but the gap between how they perceive themselves vs how the rest of the world perceives them is certainly the greatest. I think America would be much better off if people ditched their phony patriotisn once in a while and viewed their country from a more pragmatic perspective.

They're interesting because they're not where you grew up. Everyone wants what they don't have and think everything they don't have is more interesting.

You choose to live in America. You could move somewhere else with credit cards and a will. I could buy a one-way ticket to Canada, Mexico, Tibet... many places, especially ones that aren't as harsh on illegal immigrants. Find a place there, work. Build a new life. If there is really nothing good about America as you say, you wouldn't be enabled right now. You would have been kicked out of your house and forced to live on the streets. Then there would truly be nothing good with America for you. It is YOUR CHOICE. Don't ever let yourself fall into the delusion that most of your situation isn't due to your choices. That's what had me falling into a black hole.
"Everyone wants what they don't have ....." Boy is THAT ever a universal truth!

We can say what we want about the United States, it is and will remain the country where we can become who we want. Maybe I'm wrong because I don't live there but isn't the American dream?

I will have to add this aspect, and yes everyone has the right to their own thoughts and opinions.

I live in the U.S. and my parents came to the U.S. from Germany after WW2. American blood was spilled to help liberate France, and a lot of other European countries and also the Far East.

Americans have a lot of patriotism BUT, I have talked to family in Germany and associates from work from across the globe and each and every person from which ever country always thinks that their country is the best, like best standard of living, most inventions and the list goes on.

So, picking on the America as far as patriotism or that they are snotty or whatever is no different than other countries and again, back in WW2, how many Americans died helping others throw off the Axis countries.

Walter

PLEASE do not give me crap, as everyone is entitled to their own opinions, thank you!

It's overrated because is this a bigger country than others but in fact depression are all around the World
There a real mental health pandemic in America it's not about it's size. If you get out of here with your head on right and needing no pills kudos to you.

I used to like this country, but the older I've gotten, the more I've come to resent it.
There are two realities.

1) You can leave and give any other country a try.

2) You will be happy when you are back.

It would be more apt to say that I hate what America has become. I'd still rather live here than run away to some other country.

there's certain aspects of American laws and culture that I really dislike, for example:

A lot of "old school" parents thinking it is okay to kick their children out when they turn 18, especially when they don't have any economic prospects yet, and this ties into my next point

Extreme individualism, it's far too common that politicians will oppose a homeless shelter being built or any other contributions to help homeless, disabled, and less fortunate people due to the mindset that it's every man for himself

The laws and government in most US states often don't protect workers from being exploited in poor conditions, putting the financial gain of corporate bosses over the health and happiness of the everyday workers, sometimes it's about image as well so disabled and elderly people won't even be allowed to have a chair or a proper break because "it looks bad to the customer"

Putting others down who aren't as interested in money and just want to have a more laid back lifestyle, often times being viewed as a failure for not wanting to maximise income/working hours when some people really can't handle that lifestyle

Drinking and smoking age being 21, but 18 year olds can join the military and be put in life or death situations

Corporate rules that don't take into account real human feelings, this is especially prevalent in healthcare industry, many women get coerced into penetrative tests by healthcare workers (who receive big profits for this) and told if they don't comply they can't have their birth control pills or unrelated healthcare even though this is against expert guidelines- this is just flat out sexual abuse in my opinion, as lack of consent is not respected, and it's horrific this happens in a 1st world country for the sake of making money

Not knowing if those around you might have a gun or could become hostile

The poor treatment of the elderly/older adults, and also acting like once you are a certain age you can't have fun or hobbies anymore, your sole purpose is to work work work only and if you want to enjoy other things like partying, hobbies, travel for leisure, etc you are "immature"

These are the things I don't like overall, but I love the food, hospitality, and music. There are a lot of people who don't conform to the negative aspects of the culture or want to change them, but are powerless to, since the rich and influential are the ones who turn the tide.

if they are people who illegally enter your country in droves , there's a good chance they are places a lot worse
