I think "afterlife" is what your brain makes up in those brief moments after you "die" but your brain is still functioning - like the stories we get of near death experiences.
The human mind is truly fascinating and I think it can make it seem like an eternity. I'm also not ruling out something more spiritual, but eitherway I believe in the power of belief/law of attraction.
With that view, I think you will experience what you expect to experience
So if you do not believe in hell and I don't think you will go there.
If you keep thinking about it however and worrying about it perhaps your mind will conjure that experience
So I say to do your best to think happy thoughts and believe in your nice peaceful afterlife with your family
This is what I worry about- there doesn't need to be a hell for my mind to believe I'm there. My brain comes up with all sorts of creative nightmares when I'm sleeping. I can't imgine I'm going to be all that calm if I know I'm dying... Maybe I should be working on lucid dreaming...
As regards to a REAL hell- I doubt there is one. I'm leaning more towards there being nothing. Still- I'm not an outright unbeliever- I was raised with religious/spiritual ideas that are hard to shift entirely.
Honestly- if there IS a God- why shouldn't there be a hell? Why wouldn't he/she/it send people there forever for the slightest misdemeanor? Look at this world and how it's been designed! Do you REALLY think 'our' God plays fair? I'd say- based on the 'evidence'- the living world that they supposedly designed plus some of the religious texts we have- if there IS a supreme ruler- more seems to point towards them being a sadistic Narcissist rather than a loving parental teacher. I'd say we're ALL in trouble if there really is one.
I just hope there isn't one to be honest. Or- that there's some utterly fantastical but good reason behind all of this that my brain is too small to comprehend.
