Michelin trained chef. Worked for some of the best. Names you all know
my dad was a michelin trained chef as well, he cooked for bourdain once upon a time, i'm just assuming you probably have too (before his passing). i feel blessed having had consistently amazing meals in my life- even at his poorest he knew how to make something delicious. however, i know the emotional and physical turmoil it all caused him. i feel for you deeply, fine dining is particular kind of beast.

My writing is decent most of the time and occasionally superb when I have an engaging project. I am trying to get back into writing fiction after spending too much time developing academic writing.

I have started becoming good at coming up with my own recipes in the kitchen. Though it's far short of what could be properly called a talent, I am really surprised and grateful for how far I have come since I first learned to cook. My mother nearly always uses a recipe and did not teach me (thank God for Youtube). Most recently, I created a new brownie recipe that I really love.

When I played a musical instrument in school, I had a really good ear for style. Though I initially struggled much more than my classmates to learn the basics, I eventually performed at the top of my class, and one aspect I always earned praise on was my attention to dynamics and articulation. I could very quickly interpret where musical phrases were going, so I knew what to emphasize and how. Classmates who were much more technically gifted than I was often struggled with this or paid little attention to it. Though I have not picked up the instrument I learned in some years now, I remain proud of what I was able to accomplish. Playing a musical instrument is the most difficult skill I have attempted and succeeded at, and I have a much deeper appreciation for music than I think I ever would have developed otherwise. Even looking back on all the hours I spent doing sometimes very tedious exercises, I can't at all regret the time spent.

No...skills that people can usually be proud of are inborn! Sure, you have to cultivate that inborn skill , but you will never acquire it without that inborn talent. Yes, I am aware that I am overusing the word "inborn", but that was 100% deliberate!
