Listen, I have to ask: does anyone here play Dark Souls? Or is a fan of FromSoftware? Hell, even any Soulslike game!

If so then which game is your favorite? Favorite character? Favorite quest or ending? Opening up the bonfire for all who enjoy these masterpieces to talk ^u^

I don't play Dark Souls but I have played the others. My fave is Sekiro. I'm very attached to the atmosphere, some of the maps and Kuro. I love the Shura ending

I played Demon Souls a little bit when it first came out and enjoyed it. Time constraints prohibited me from really getting into it. Sadly, it wasn't until Bloodborne that I got to experience a FromSoftware game all the way through. It led me to buy Sekiro but for some reason I never got a chance to get all the way through it. I thoroughly enjoyed a soulslike from Bandai Namco called Code Vein. I also pre-ordered and picked up Elden Ring but made the mistake of buying it on PC. My computer was on the edge and it turned out it wouldn't play well. I wanted to play it badly but it never happened.

While I don't like the games as much now (mostly from playing them too much) They have definitely had a great effect on my life. Their difficulty and challenge, world design and exploration, the atmosphere and aesthetics, choice in build variety, interesting lore and story and general combat where you have to more consider what you are doing make for engaging experiences. I just think its gotten a but repetitive, especially with Elden Ring to me not really innovating enough with mechanics, especially with how big the game is.

Dark Souls 1 will be my favorite of the games cus of its inter-connected world, just general nostalgia for being the first of the games I played and the world and enemy combat encounters being the best I would say in the series. Dark Souls 3 will definitely have the best bosses in my opinion and I like the variety in gimmick and more traditional styled bosses. Been doing a broken sword run in Dark Souls 3 and currently doing the DLC. If we count Sekiro tho then that game in my opinion goes beyond everything the other games have done in my opinion.

I've heard great things about Sekiro! I've only watched lore videos about it but it reminds me of FromSoft games before the Souls titles where you follow established characters' journeys like in Kuon

YOOOO Lies of P. is so cool! I haven't played it yet (def want to just a lack of time and money sadly like with most games I've been itching to play) but I got to catch a livestream of someone fighting Arlecchino and holy shit??? The moveset is insane!

Oh a Heian horror interesting, they are very good vibe curators aren't they? I personally dream of a remaster of their Yoshitsune game. Others souls like I enjoyed are Bloodborne, Code Vein (excited for sequel), Elden Ring, Nioh 2 but yeah I'm mainly in love with Sekiro due to it hitting several of my storytelling and worldbuilding soft spots

i only play fromsoft games, well i sometimes try other games, but i only truly desire fromsoft games. or maybe really good soulslikes, such as ai limit. i literally can't enjoy anything else anymore. i think the only non-souls game i genuinely enjoyed was armored core, which is another fromsoft game, of course.

my favorite is elden ring due to its unending lore. i lose myself in it. i think i've watched every single youtube video and read about every theory on the lore. i've also developed my own theories.

second would be either bloodborne or dark souls 3. gameplay-wise, they're equal to elden ring for me. bloodborne also has immense lore, and its dlc was crazy good. after that, sekiro, ds, demon's souls, and ds2 would follow. personally, i thought ds2 was the hardest of all, and overall it felt a little disorganized as a game compared to the rest. i really enjoyed the remastered ds, as it was a huge part of my childhood. sekiro, of course, has the best combat gameplay, without a doubt. it has no equal.

favorite quest: i'd say ranni. the excitement of walking the path to the moonlight greatsword feels really good and satisfying. favorite ending, also ranni's ending. favorite boss: it's either lady maria of the astral clocktower or radagon of the golden order, the music is something else, it makes you literally feel as if you're facing god. lady maria is probably my favorite character in all the soulsborne games as well.

as for nightreign, since i only enjoy single player, it's very hard, but i keep trying to git gud.

Would you ever want to go back and play them if you had more time to do so wether it be now or the future? :0

I've heard great things about Bloodborne, it's a friend of mine's favorite game. But I must admit, I grew up on Xbox- so I've never been able to play it unless I get a PC down the road. But wow- what a beautiful game. I adore the gothic horror atmosphere and the Hunter's Dream hubworld is amazing. Off topic but I love Warframe as well and their newest game, Soulframe has a hubworld similiar to it where your character transcends through the real world to a pocket dimension. I heard about the 60FPS Bloodborne PC port but its been a while since I've looked it up.

Honestly, you nailed it perfectly with why these games are just so amazing. I've only played the Dark Souls trilogy but its truly unlike anything out there. Of course that's what you want in a piece of media- something unique but Dark Souls truly blends every aspect into a beautiful yet harrowing dark fantasy. I love how bleak it is. Unlike most games where you're the hero 'HERE TO SAVE THE WORLD', you're just some undead. The world is indifferent to you. Yet, you continue waking up at the bonfire and keep on going. To me, hollowing is depression/suicide but not matter what, you don't dare to go hollow.

Sorry for that ramble lol but HOLY SHIT a broken sword play through is crazy, what boss are you on?

nah don't be sorry about rambling ^^ For some reason I haven't really continued it recently but I have Gael, Midir and Soul of Cinder left. So far this run has been easier than the Dark Souls 1 broken sword run I done as I wasn't even able to defeat Artorias and the rest of the DLC in that game.

Oh, most definitely. Growing up I was an avid gamer and played anything I could get my hands on. Once you become an adult priorities change and I didn't have as much time. What free time I had was spent working.

While there are some titles I have dropped everything for in the past, it has been a long time since I've been that passionate about a game. I hope to make more time and try to enjoy games like I used to.

I recommend checking out Bloodborne if you get the chance.

Apologies for not responding to you comment until now!

Ah Elden Ring. I still haven't played it yet but I hope one day I can play both it and Bloodborne. I love watching- listening to FromSoft lore videos. OFC, I LOVE VaatiVidya's Prepare To Cry series. To see it return but elevated for Elden Ring... it's like watching a movie. I know its a dark fantasy as well but Elden Ring to me feels hopeful. In some weird sense. I can't explain it but it just has that air to it.

Fromsoft games were one of the last things I experienced autism levels of interest for before my anhedonia rendered me a zombie. I wrote like a 30 page guide on how to play a pyromancer in DS3 effectively lol. I remember welling up with excitement talking about all the bosses. Dark Souls 3 was my first love; I had never played something like that before, that felt so punishing and rewarding. I loved that it required patience and learning, and that every fight felt like an accomplishment you really earned. I loved the way it looked and the way it sounded, it has such a good soundtrack. I sunk serious hours into DS3 pvp. But Sekiro is my favorite game of all time. No combat system feels better than Sekiro's. I'LL DIE ON THAT HILL.

Shout out to these queens:
  • Isshin, The Sword Saint
  • Rellana Twin Moon Knight
  • Slave Knight Gale
  • Sister Friede
  • Owl (Father)
  • Dancer, Twin Princes, Radahn, Maliketh, Lady Maria, Ludwig, Messmer, Genichiro, Morgott, Darkeater Midir, I could go on...
I feel like Darkeater Midir would make a good name for a cat. Anyway, I've also been playing Elden Ring Nightreign a bit. I think the bosses are really good. If anyone wants to play, hit me up so I can get weirdly avoidant about something I asked for.

A 30 PAGE GUIDE?!?! I would honestly read that even though no matter what game I play, I play as a knight with a greatsword LMAO. Dark Souls 3 is truly amazing. FromSoft perfected the ending to the franchise and while I WISH for a return, it's just well- perfect! You reminded me of this video about DS3 that I absolutely love and rewatched recently. My brain is all over the place but now I need to get back into Dark Souls PvP!!!

Yeah I've played a decent amount of Fromsoft games. Mainly Dark Souls 1, 3 a little bit of Bloodborne and Elden Ring. Someone mentioned above the Souls Like Lies of P and I absolutely love it so much. I've gotten all achievements twice and have beaten the DLC a few times. I really can't wait to see what comes next from the gaming company Neowiz.
