@gingerplum ,

I don´t claim to have all the answers. I am simply claiming that individual freedom allows one to make choices. The specifics are not that relevant.
Of course, individual freedom ends where one starts violating other people´s rights. ´natural rights´ versus ´human rights´ or something like that.

Again, you seem to be strongly implying that individuals have an unfettered right to access barbiturates so that they might excercise their fundamental right to suicide.

The "specifics" of individual freedom are indeed important, and that specificity is actually the exact premise for the discussion in this thread.

Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

Look, it should be very simple. There should be a national non-profit euthanasia organization, which should be funded by tax money. Their only job should be to provide resources, nothing else. And if you decide to end your life, you should have access to methods that reliably and peacefully do the job, based on said resources. I think Nembutal should be sold like any other drugs and non-profit organization should hand out prescription after a short consultation. They should basically act like a very simple check to make sure you're informed and in the right physical condition to end your life with your preferred method, you know, make sure there are no complications that could occur during your attempt. But they should not take away your autonomy and make the decision for you. They should simply provide resources.

This is essentially what I was proposing, with your addition of the idea of the organization being non-profit, which I think is a good one.

Keep in mind, however, as a society, we are a long, long way away from a government funded revenue stream to a euthanasia organization.

Edit: Let me add to this. Even providing resources only will get very sticky, very fast. What is the protocol, for example, when this little boy shows up with questions: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cincinnati.com/amp/543829001

Is there a duty to report, or should he be provided with the same resources as a competent adult?

Once that's established, who determines competency, and by what means? This alone is tip of the iceberg stuff, guys.

Yes we are, look at the Planned Parenthood scandal in the US, the selling of fetus parts for research. This almost got them defunded. In fact, they had to take some cuts and many politicians who supported them became very quiet.
The healthcare industry as a whole has a long process to go through to even consider the term rational suicide. The process will take generations.
