also @Arvayn actually there is:
fortunately a user here has developed a usercript that gives one much more control and generally improves the site, including this aspect.
Oh, neat. Good point. I did see that thread, but I forgot about it. I don't spend enough time on this website to be bothered by the small things...

I actually ripped that green booger out long ago by just using inspect element and breaking it, hah. I was used to it but if I don't have to tolerate a useless neon green distraction, why would I?

I don't have a religion, but I'm quite critical of Christianity because it's a great tool for opportunists, with the talk of being born a sinner, placing a guilt that doesn't even exist, where the person has to follow a certain book to earn paradise in death, a place no one ever returns to, one of the biggest scams in history, from my point of view.
I have a complicated relationship with Christianity. I was never and I am not religious, and I think it's true that for the most part, Christianity was widespread thanks to its incredible usefulness as a tool for social diplomacy as opposed to any true desire for virtue and the wellness of humanity; especially during the Middle Ages. There are many, many passages in the Bible dedicated exclusively to laying down social rules in the pursuit of coherence and homogeny.

However, I really enjoy studying it alongside other Abrahamic faiths, because I think it is one of the most intellectually and anthropologically enlightening reservoirs of human belief and wisdom within the Western parts of the globe; I almost majored in theology, despite being a non-believer. Religion is so, so deeply embedded into the collective conscious of society, even incidentally within atheists; not only that, but it's a fascinating compendium of metaphysics and philosophy.

Pauline Christianity is my favorite aspect of their faith. Apostle Paul was heavy on mystical ideas, on the immaterial, on studying the alien and incomprehensible nature of God; that stuff is crack for me. He also did a little bit of religious revisionism in his translations of religious texts in order to make it more palatable to Greeks and Romans, on top of generally being the worst, most malpractitioning anthropologist of all time, but that's besides the poooooint!

Yikes. From my understanding it's a cultish faith (and the jehova thing is a misunderstanding of hebrew lol)

I went to a conference in greece for christian theology over the summer. Despite being Jewish I still really like learning about christianity, memetically it is very obvious as to why it succeeded imo. I do not share your love for Paul, though! @Arvayn

You really understand the subject. I have my reservations about any religion, but I like many ideas from Buddhism, although it is paradoxically an atheist religion.

Most of Christianity is of Pauline origin, but even Christ's original disciples didn't like Paul.

I take pleasure in my disenchantment. There's something that makes me feel superior in being able to look at someone and think "If only you knew...". That might be a bit anti-social, but I really do not have a better way to put it.

Thank you. And, oh goodness, don't get me started on Buddhism... it is fascinating, and has a lot of useful, and truthful, ideas. I am a nerd about theology.
I will say, though: I never understood what Buddhists intend to achieve by escaping Samsara. They frame it as liberation or apotheosis, but it would be wrong to say that you're undergoing any form of "upgrade" or "downgrade" by escaping; you're simply stepping out of participating in the whole of existence. How can you apply a material framework to a state that does not operate under any remotely similar rules? If any rules at all?
Yet again, it just seems like desire and want is generating deceit and suffering here. Though, I am not an Eastern scholar... Maybe I am missing something.

We only see it that way because we are incapable of belief, I think. (Or at least speaking for myself)

Currently taking a class on buddhism, so I can get back to you later. My impression of eastern philosophy in general is that it never developed past aphorism

The Buddha didn't have perfect ideas; over time, new understandings were added. But here's my point of view: escaping samsara is when we leave behind all desire and attachment, then you feel peace, dying and living become the same. Some monks die meditating, others no longer even feel physical pain. This is something that intrigues me.
I'm not sure I understood what you meant, so please excuse my English.
