Most people have a need to feel connected to others (only a small number of people don't). Do you think something like having a deep friendship or an intimate relationship could help you stop feeling suicidal, make you want to live and give you something to look forward to in the future? Or do you think it wouldn't make much of a difference for you?

That's a good question. I would say having a connection like that would not make me want to live in this reality, at this time. The reason I know that is because I have deep friendships and relationships right now, and I am on this forum haha. I've outlined my main reasons in this post and a comment further down: https://sanctioned-suicide.net/threads/introduction-and-cryonics-question.250227/

I'm assuming when you say relationships you're talking about all kinds of relationships, not just romantic relationships. I'm asexual for all intents and purposes here (I'm only attracted to anthros lol, don't judge), so romantic relationships don't really apply to me here. I think my friendships and relationships would probably make me more hesitant to actually go through with anything, because I would hate to make them sad, but my desire to live here is still next to nonexistent even having those kinds of connections.

I think if a European man suddenly found me and said he would take me with him to his country and pay for all my travel expenses and put in me in therapy and make me get all the mental health treatment I need then yes I MIGHT want to live

(/j. this is unfortunately impossible)

That is true, but I feel like depression makes it harder to reach out, enjoy other people's company, trust people or feel like you have anything to offer which makes entering and maintaining a deep friendship or relationship hard. But at the same time having a close supportive relationship is one of the strongest protective factors against depression and can help people recover. It's a catch-22.

Hard to say. I really really want to say yes... but I don't actually know, besides being this person for myself I have never experienced a reciprocally deep, intimate, and supportive relationship; emphasis on reciprocally because I have definitely been that person for others years ago.

Definitely, but I'm not entirely sure if the renewed will to live would even last that long. Or how long it would last.

i think 1000% percent yes. i think one of the only things im good at is love. i love so quickly and unconditionally and its a shame that no one will ever stick around long enough to see how devoted to them i could be. it makes me so happy to be in a relationship. ill always be suicidal but i would live if it meant i could be with the loml for as long as they will have me.

My depression sabotaged my relationship. You can get away with not calling your partner for a week twice, but that third time you do it, it's over.

I have my husband, but our relationship is one of many reasons why I want to kill myself. He is my everything and has been for my entire adulthood. Our relationship just feels so hopeless a lot of the time, making it that much easier to CTB. So, no. If our relationship was less painful? Maybe. Probably not. I'd still be suicidal for other reasons and no relationship can fix those.

I'm really sorry to hear that. đź«‚
In my case my closest friend decided to leave me after I ghosted him for 6 days during a depression relapse. I can't stop regretting it.

it would definitely help me a lot. loneliness has made living unbearable. i feel very rushed, i need to ctb asap because the loneliness is becoming more suffocating by the day and i can't stand it. i'd choose to stay a lot longer if i had even one person close to me. still, i'd eventually ctb because i am cooked.
