Ok. As in the topic. I read that a tent in forest is a good idea to burn charcoal. But what about other places. Is an apartment (flat) reliable for this method? Or a closed car?

For those who are considering ctb by CO which place would you choose?

I would choose a tent or a car, apartment is too open and could involve other people in the building. Anything completely air tight, I've considered this method

Was really thinking about car, but closed car still has air conditioning inlets, but I do not know if they provide oxygen when car is closed.

But there are situations when dog or a child is left in car in a really hot day and they die, but I assume it's due sweating and lack of water, not oxygen.

I believe when a dog or child is left in a car on a hot day they likely die from heat stroke and dehydration.

As for CO, it was my preferred method for a short while but I ultimately decided against it purely based on not having a car and not being able to light the coals, wait until they've finished burning and then transport them to whenever I need without being noticed or rousing some sort of suspicion. I definitely think when it's well prepared and done right it has a high rate of succession.

Some things I learnt while researching the method is a tent or a car is the best place to do it because it's a confined space so the affect works quicker but you need to be cautious about ventilation, particularly with a tent as they can have vents or a breathable material that could let the CO escape - so look at product specifics to know if it's suitable or not. Also with a tent or a car, there's less chance of it affecting anyone else. I had read a few cases where the car caught on fire from embers either before or after the person died so that's something to consider, too.

If you plan to do it at home, in a flat then there is the risk of CO leaking into your neighbours apartments. If you do plan do it in a sealed bathroom for example, it would be a good idea to open some windows in the rest of your flat so if any gas does leak out then it won't pose a risk to whoever enters your home and finds you.

I looked into this as well and it just seems like there are too many variables to control. Cars don't make enough CO anymore to use the tailpipe method. I did find out about the helium bag method, which sounds appealing. Quick, painless and no panic.

I think the OP meant burning charcoal briquettes and bringing the bucket into the car rather than using a tailpipe

Yeah, I get it. The tailpipe is the OG method, but is no longer effective, which is what took me down the rabbit hole. Controlling a fire or placing a small, 2-stroke engine inside a confined space without anyone finding out just seems like a hastle. Too much to control. Too much to go wrong. Not impossible, obviously, but on balance there are many better methods in my humble opinion. All have trade-offs.

I'll be using the CO method, unless I can safely get N. I'm going to pitch a tent in my garage and have 3 buckets of charcoal to get CO concentrations up near 12000 PPM. I plan on making a small, brick and mortar type "enclosure" on the floor of the tent to set the buckets in and then wait until concentration is where I want it, which will be measured with a meter. At 12000 PPM, I should be out cold within seconds of entering the tent.

You'll probably want to let the concentration get a bit higher before entering, since the very act of entering will open the enclosure and release some of the CO. I'd suggest experimenting with this a bit to see how quickly the level comes down from just opening the tent for the 30-60 seconds that it would take to enter and re-close it.

I would not use buckets, but one or two high quality BBQ´s. Make sure you have the right equipment and follow the guide. Otherwise you will survive as a vegetabile in psych. ward.

I believe I can get in and re-zip the hatch closed in less than 10 seconds. I doubt I'll lose much CO. That's the idea behind getting the CO up to 12000 PPM, also. And I plan to run some testing before I go forth with the actual CTB.

I see nothing wrong with using steel buckets, similar in shape and size to what the Japanese use. I plan on running multiple tests before the actual ctb. Buckets will hold the coals in closer proximity to each other, resulting in a higher temperature compared to being spread out in a bbq, which will induce a cleaner and hotter burn, thus more CO generation. If I decide through testing that 4 buckets would be better, I'll use 4.

I thought about using a respirator mask. Since it creates smoke at the beginning, the mask should filter the smoke but not the Carbon monoxide.

Or better yet, don't bring the BBQ or whatever container into the enclosed space until the fire is out and it is no longer smoking......... which is the recommended method.
