Discussion Brand New Members, How Did You Find This Place?

Hi guys! I don't often post to the forums here (I much prefer the chat of the site which I recommend every new user spend some time in) but lately I have been and I've noticed a lot more new users. This is posted completely out of curiosity but I do want to know how many of you came here from the news covering SaSu or from a YouTube video made on it. Either way, I hope you feel welcome and I hope that maybe this place helps you guys, in whatever form that "help" might be.

Also if you haven't and you'd like to, feel free to introduce yourself below! Especially if you're a newer member, it can be nice to connect with people. My profile should be public, so I'll desist from creating my own introduction, but I'd be happy to talk to any and every one of you if you ever need someone to speak to, as well.

Just joined recently but been lurking for years. Came across the old subreddit before it was banned and found the site from there. Would have continued to lurk but recently noticed being unable to access certain sections as an unregistered user.

I created an introduction in the intro thread, but hi, I'm Orr. Been thinking more about CTB lately. Going through hell basically since October last year, though I've had the thoughts on and off for most of my life. Feel very alone irl. I can have a good time talking to my coworkers and stuff but that almost makes it worse when I have to leave and they all have someone or even each other and I'm essentially alone. Been unsure about what I want to do because I have plans and dreams for the future but dying would also be great.

I joined very recently as a result of Tantacrul's video. Something about how he addressed the topic really rubbed me the wrong way in addition to how his censorship of SaSu as "Sorrowful Solution" (We get it, you're against suicide, but I was hoping for an unbiased report.) made me want to at least check out the site for myself. Just so happened that most of the stuff on here was relatable, so I felt comfortable being able to join and be open about the thoughts I've been constantly told to not have.

I'm not good at introductions, and I've already been open about my life in other posts, so I'll keep it succinct.

Hi, call me Marigold (or U_U or U2 or whatever). I like reading books, though I'm picky with what I read; listening to music, particularly J-POP and K-POP; and playing games, which I'm picky about too. (Stardew Valley is one of my favorites, by far.) There's a lot of reasons why I want to CTB, from the trivial to the "valid", but I'm still hanging on due to the fact that I'll be missing out of a good story.

I watched a video about some girl talking about this site and how it killed her son as if it was the website's fault and not his own . Got intrigued and decided to check it out for myself because I have a long long history with suicide (attempts and loss of friends and family) and didn't know that there was a place where I could actually speak about it with other people who understood. Haven't even been here a full day and it already feels nice to be surrounded by others who understand.

I found SaSu a few weeks ago when I started researching methods of CTB, more specifically SN which I heard about from the Pedo killing himself new story recently. This place is full of wonderful resources and people and has helped me calm down from making a rushed decision.

It's very nice to see and hear from you all. There's the obvious sadness I have for all of you being in a place where you end up here, but I hope your time here helps you guys, sincerely. I would genuinely recommend giving the chat a try, it made it easier for me to post here, and I hope one day none of us need a site like this. Hopefully you end up coming to realize this place isn't really a cult like it was painted. Just a lot of suffering people, even if we do get a few bad eggs once in a while.

I like reading books, though I'm picky with what I read;

I would actually love to talk to you about literature if you ever have the time, I'm an avid reader and I love hearing people's reading lists and thoughts!

I used to lurk in r/sanctionedsuicide for years. Even though I never posted, it gave me such a sense of community to see other people be able to frankly talk about a subject that will get you locked up if you're not careful what you say about it in other situations.

I didn't know this place existed until I saw the NYT article. I feel like in hindsight right before the Reddit ban, this forum was mentioned, but I can't recall for sure and never did follow up on it if so.

Grateful for this place, regardless.

I had mentioned this in the introduction thread as well but I actually found out about SS through my job ironically enough, came across it when reviewing a co-workers investigation and decided to look into it myself. After doing some digging and reviewing the forum for myself I found that I actually really appreciate the community and the odd melancholic peacefulness that surrounds the conversations here.

After peaking around for a few days I decided to make my own account, and I am very happy I did, happy for the first time in a while actually.

I'm sorry that you've found people you're not the biggest fan of. I know that in reality nobody will ever be liked by everybody, but I hope you still find this community welcoming and helpful!

i've said it before, but i have experience with forums similar to this, where we spoke uncensored about our ed issues…i needed a new space based on the fact i no longer participated in ed forums and am recovered in that sense.

i did find ss from that video, but know when outsiders cover websites like these, they often misconstrue things. so i was able to see through the obvious bias…

suicidal people are suicidal whether they are chatting on a website or not. just as eating disordered people will engage in eating disorder behaviours whether they are chatting on a website or not. eating disorders are deadly in the exact same sense, it's just a slower kind of suffering. i have found great support and advice on here, i am thankful for that. i honestly see hope for the future now based upon my interactions here.

The video. You know the one. Even from the perspective of someone who didn't know about the site beforehand, I thought it was pretty obvious that he misrepresented this place pretty horribly.

It's possible though that I did hear about this site earlier, but if I did I couldn't remember.

I was doing a lot of searching around for suicide and related issues including methods and such. I started specifically researching SN. Then I was going through some academic research papers mentioning it and one of those specifically mentioned the name of this site.
