Okay so I've tried looking this up a couple of times, but I keep getting mixed answers from google. I'm hoping to CTB soon, but i'm worried about failing and being sent to a mental hospital or a psych ward. Honestly with what i've heard about those places i would just rather go back to living life as normal than being forced to go there. Can someone tell me if i absolutely 100% have to go to a psych ward after being found trying to take my own life or can I refuse?

in the U.S. yes it will likely be done involuntarily. especially if you get busted with no plausible deniability i.e. "oh i accidentally tripped and bypassed the fifteen foot vertical gate and almost fell off the bridge, officer doctor sir" vs "sorry i must have had a few drinks and forgot i had taken my pain pill earlier i promise im good i have a lot to live for" and it just depends on the people involved too

Just a heads up, depending on the unit and patients some actually aren't as bad as you'll hear. I've had a couple involuntary holds when I was younger (not for attempts) that I found pleasant because the other patients and caretakers were very nice to be around.

awww man. I guess I just gotta hope for the best. There's no way they'll believe "oh yeah i accidentally made this rope, and i lost control of my hands and tied some knots, and oh yeah and i slipped into it and my head fell in yeah" lolllll🙄

from my experience, it's really easy to get out if you've never been in before. just cry in therapy, share a lot of stuff (or make stuff up if you don't really want help), talk about how you just wanted an escape rather than actually wanting to die, and use performative coping skills

This is how I got out of my second stay after 2 weeks. I just smiled a lot and told the therapist what she wanted to hear... "Yeah I'm good, I was just really down because me and girlfriend split up, plus I was drinking, so I wasn't in right frame of mind.".

If you can manage to bullshit your way through therapist like I did, you can pretty much get out of it.
