Not including rapist and killers,
But do you ever feel bad for people that are going through a hard time, and do you ever wonder if they are better off dead.
I normally never thought about it, but I don't think I've ever told myself "oh that guy looks like he is suffering, he should just kill himself.";?
Makes me wonder if people here should not be killing themselves.
One thing is for sure I feel emotionally and mentally tormented. And I need the pain to stop.

I would be better off dead. When I cross the streets I pray to get hit by a truck but it never happens. I suffer from so many problems that escape from my situation is impossible.
Well the question was more about if you think someone else you seen, is better off dead, not necessarily if you are better off dead.

I'm on the fence on this one. I've been to Afghanistan and seen poverty first hand. Even through they live in poverty and suffer daily they still live their lives and are happy. They have a lot of children despite their situation leading a cycle of suffering. I met a woman who had three children and her husband was on drugs could not provide for her family in Afghanistan. I think it would be better if she had the choice of drinking N.

We live in a society that holds life to be precious and to even suggest that any single life is not valuable is to impugn the very foundation upon which all civilizations are built upon. Based on my experiences and observations, this taboo is one I would strongly argue must be broken. It is as much folly to assert that life is as valuable for all people as it is to say all people are happy. One might want to be happy, but wants and the truth are two separate things.

In so arguing, I don't mean to say we should institute a real life version of what conservatives might call a death panel. I am arguing for a fundamental right for each individual to decide for themselves the value of their own life. And should the need arise, the right to die should be as respected as the right for the pursuit of happiness. But I doubt that I shall see this cone about in my lifetime. Hell, we can't even afford terminally ill people the right to euthanasia in the majority of this world.

So to answer the question, yeah, some people are better off dead, but that's for the individual to decide.

When the majority infringes on my individual/personal rights (ie. a right that effects only me notwithstanding testimony that your suicide effects those around you as well) then fuck the majority. I can join the military and die for my country, but my country will not allow me to die on my own terms and end my suffering. Seriously, fuck em.

Of course. I'd argue that an opportune demise would ease the irreparable suffering of far more poor souls out there than society would like to admit. Personally though, I take the better never to have been approach.

Well, thanks to most societies' reliance on the instrumentalization of the individual for the sake of the ephemeral collective, your idea isn't likely to come around.

Yes some people probably are better off dead but I believe only the person who might be better off dead can determine this.

I find myself thinking that some people would be better off dead. Not in "wow I really hope they die" kind of way, I'd just be glad that the person's suffering has ended.

supposedly isolated indigenous tribes have the lowest stress levels. It always makes me wonder why we are so damn stressed out in America with all the shit we have but people with only loin cloths to their name across the globe from me are far happier than I am.

Yes, myself included due to my life circumstances as well as my conditions in life (Aspergers really hurt my social life and just interactions with people in general). Also, philosophically, I don't agree with the whole life is great spiel that people parade around and that if there is a right to life, then there should be a right to die.

"I can join the military and die for my country, but my country will not allow me to die on my own terms and end my suffering". That's a beutiful line right there.

Seriously, why is it so hard for some people to understand that life isn't that great for a lot of us? I constantly hear people complain about how life sucks but they decide to stick to life and they expect others to do the same, and how dare anyone attempt suicide because then everyone freaks out about potentially losing someone they never really cared for. F***ing pathetic.

I definitely wouldn't make this judgment on behalf of another person. I believe each person is the sole judge of whether they are better off dead. That said, I do look at some people and wonder how they make it through their days. Especially homeless people, some infirm people, some elderly people. People who wake up to long, empty days.

Right there with you - better never to have been.

Although tbh, I wouldn't mind having been for the first 30 years of my life. I just want an off switch now.

But, given the reality of illness, aging, and dying, and having no off switch, then better never to have been.

Yes, some people are really better off dead but it really has to be a completely hopeless situation without any alternatives available

Yes I believe they are. I got through life believing that things would be better but it's not. I should have never been born. Some people live their whole life in hell, so yes they would be better off dead.

IMO this isn't really a valid question. We are so brainwashed by the societal belief in the"value of life" that we are afraid to even question life being meaningless or even negative. Is life better for a Somalian orphan that will go blind from an eye parasite and have to beg to eat for ten years and then slowly die? What possible value could his life serve? That may seem like an extreme case but with how fast the populations are growing in underdeveloped countries it is becoming a more common thing.

Lol! Right, it's probably because more social cohesion, they are more equal as far as everyone pretty much has similar wealth, it's more cooperative, nobody left out. In America it's way more complicated to stay on top of things. Even though we have greater wealth, we are more divided, smaller families especially these days if u have family at all that u can turn to. Definitely more cut throat. If you don't make a certain amount of money in America you can't even be legal as it is criminalized to be too poor.
