Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you're unlucky it can unleash an entire syndrome upon you (known as 'fluoroquinolone toxicity syndrome' aka 'floxing' or being 'floxed'). This can include 30, 40 even 50+ adverse events being experienced simultaneously and persisting for years if not forever. This class of antibiotics is known to interfere with the production of collagen as well as cause mitochondrial dysfunction which can result in everything from spontaneous tendon ruptures, joint degradation, neuropathy, vision damage, hearing loss, cognitive problems--you name it. The current warning insert for Cipro is 53 pages long and is up to I believe three black box warnings now.
Anyway, I'm one of the unlucky 'forever' cases. I've been severely disabled for over a decade now and live in constant agonizing, intractable pain. I truly wish the Cipro had just killed me. Please be extremely careful if a doctor ever tries to prescribe you Cipro again (or any of the other antibiotics in its class). They are supposed to be used in life-or-death situations only after other, less dangerous antibiotics have failed. Trust me: You do not want to end up in a wheelchair or bedridden over a UTI. It's not worth it. Many doctors still deny that Cipro even does this to people. You have to really look out for yourself out there.
You're right. Because I'm on disability for psych issues. I can leave I guess but the more I stay in my room the more I feel trapped in it. I was abused as a kid and I guess my brain took over as abuser.
Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that. Yea, we can definitely become our own worst enemies in our heads. I can't even pretend to know what you're going through. I hope you're getting some sort of help?

It's hell. Almost every therapist and doctor is surprised I bother lol I'm doing EMDR therapy for ptsd, but I'm not seeing change. A few insights gained though.

They've actually told you they're surprised you're trying to get better?? I'd never heard of EMDR before but I just watched a Youtube vid about it. Very interesting! Sorry to hear it's not working for you (yet, anyway). Have you looked into ayahuasca? Although I suppose going to one of those retreats might be too much for you if you're unable to leave your house. It's good that you're trying to heal yourself though. I definitely wish you luck. It sounds like life hasn't been very kind to you.

They're surprised I'm still alive. "Well doc, give me euthanasia." Lol
The healing is too slow. I did therapy for years until adulthood. It was a complete waste. I'm so angry. They wanted to focus on my immediate problems instead of the underlying ones.
^Wow, I just saw that you added this. Yea, that's probably not a coincidence! Cipro is very well known for causing tendon "issues" as Bayer likes to call them. Had you ever had tendonitis before? Do you still have it?
And it sounds like you might need to find a new therapist and/or doctor. I don't think I'd want my therapist to tell me he/she is surprised I'm still alive
The tendon issues appeared when I went too hard on the stretch bands. A few months later I still have it. They can't get better because I have to use my hands throughout the day which keeps aggravating the tendons in my forearms. Never had it before but i hadn't worked out in years.

Only a few months after I took antibiotics not only had i lost my mind, had a heart attack, chronic fatigue, liver damage ect I also developed tendonitis, my body is much weaker now. Little did I know I was slowly killing myself taking that shit. Its a slow painful end.
Do people often recover? I'm worried about new developments. How long were you on it? I was on it for a week. I said last fall but it was actually in December now that I think about it.

Most people recover, yes. It can take a long time though. Just be careful not to overextend yourself as you don't want to cause any tendon tears or ruptures. I was on it for less than a week. Course length doesn't really correlate well though as some people take one pill and get utterly destroyed while others can take it for months or even years before they finally get struck (and some don't get struck at all, perplexingly).

I actually had two different ones, one called Fluxacillion and fusidic acid. Completely ruined my life. Now suicide is inevitable not matter how much I try I'm not going to live like this for long.

Do you know which antibiotic(s)? They're definitely a fast-track to an elderly body.

I showed my orthopedist and he said I'm too young to have so many injuries. My Achilles had been hurting too but it stopped. He prescribed ibuprofen 600mg 3 times a day for 2 weeks and said after that to exercise again. Was that bad advice?
so it was Flucloxacillin I took and they are similar and just as bad especially if taken alot.
Just thinking about it kinda wants to make me end it right now, I give myself a few weeks max, I'm hoping k will save me. Its a long shot but who knows, I've heard good things

Are my tendons less likely to
heal than the average person as a result of the drug?
And is the tendons moving across the top bone of my spine bad? I coughed so hard that I hurt something and the pain radiated down my spine. I went to the ER and they gave some shots and the pain went away.
Assuming it was indeed the Cipro that caused the problem then yes, they're less likely to heal than an average person's because they've now been chemically altered. That doesn't mean they can't still heal...it'll just take more time than "normal" tendons would. And you definitely don't want to do anything that could make them worse. For the first year or so after becoming floxed your #1 priority should really be to avoid causing any further injury. It takes our bodies a lot of time to figure out what to do with this shit since it's a chemical/cellular injury caused by a manmade synthetic chemical that our bodies did not evolve to know how to handle.
What shots were you given in the ER? I hope not corticosteroids. Also I think you'd written something about being given ibuprofen? That's an NSAID which are supposed to be avoided if/when a person has been floxed. NSAIDS and corticosteroids are contraindicated with fluoroquinolone antibiotics--and not just while taking the antibiotics. After you've "fallen victim" to them as well. I unfortunately learned this the hard way when in 2020 I used a tiny bit of a topical steroid on a skin rash and it completely obliterated me. That's when I went from being merely housebound to 100% bedridden. A normal, non-floxed person could've used that topical steroid with no issues whatsoever.

How do I even heal? Every time I use my hands those tendons are being used. After having slept, they look less inflamed but I can't sleep all day. I wrap them but it only helps a little.
Yeah I was on ibuprofen and the ER doc gave me a steroid shot and an anti-inflammatory. Since I had no adverse reactions to the NSAID and shots, does that mean I'm not floxed?

I read that you can't take antidepressants either. I'm on Prozac. I feel fine.
Good questions. I wish I had tips on how to heal from this shit other than just time. It's the only thing I ever found that helped. But yea...exercise intolerance (or just use intolerance) is a problem.
Not everyone who's floxed has issues with NSAIDs and/or steroids but as a rule they should be avoided--especially steroids. I've taken NSAIDs (accidentally) while floxed before and never suffered any ill effects from them. The steroid I wasn't nearly as lucky with.
It's not me who can't take antidepressants, I was saying I know others on this site who've had terrible adverse reactions to them. Point being that you've gotta be really careful with these Rx drugs because while one might not get you, another one will if you keep rolling the dice. I've taken Prozac myself before and 'got away' with it only to get slammed by Cipro. Someone else might take Cipro with no problem and then get slammed by Prozac. It's all a crapshoot.
If you are indeed floxed, it's pretty mild as far as floxings go so I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. But DEFINITELY do not ever take another fluoroquinolone again. That would be the ultimate test of whether or not you're currently floxed and you don't want to find out via a re-exposure!

Exercise intolerance just means exercising makes your symptoms worse. No two people are floxed the same way or to the same extent so some people may still be able to exercise somewhat (or endure physical therapy) while others simply can't. I tried physical therapy back in the early days and it just made everything so much worse.
