whenever i watch a random video or read a random thing or just anything, and right at the bottom there's a copy pasted list of hotlines that has nothing to do with the content of the post or just anything, like it's there for no reason, i get so angry i see red

maybe it's because i have experience with hotlines and ik they just call the cops on you, maybe its just the "here's a bunch of random hotlines so i don't have to bother with you, go call them"

does anyone else get irrationally angry too

I was just thinking about this. I think its become the social-custom like saying "bless you" that if you don't do it YouTube moderation will reap your video.

Like its as meaningless as "Don't do it". If they were going to link or just frigging--link to a cute puppy video, at least I'd get to see a puppy

I don't get mad but I do get pretty annoyed by the hotlines. I made the mistake of calling them when I was young and it was entirely pointless.

Whenever someone links suicide hotlines online, I see it the same way as when someone says "see a doctor/therapist" or "try medication". Like you don't know me, I've already tried multiple of those and just like hotlines, they were a waste of time, money, and energy. It's just a more polite way of saying they're tired of the conversation and want to end it while feeling like they did something to help.

Yes. It*s irritating. Hotlines should only come up if you search for them. When you're suicidal for years and constantly see the list of hotlines come up even though they're useless, it only makes you despise them, not make you want to seek them out. When I search a ctb method, I want just that, ctb methods, and not hotlines. If I wanted to call them, I would do it, but since they can't respect the fact that there are people who want to have the right to end their own life, I don't respect nor care about suicide hotlines. Fk them and their selfish way of thinking.

I often feel the same.
In the past, I called suicide hotlines a couple of times, but most of the time I just had the feeling that the person either misunderstood my message or that they felt overwhelmed with me being in such a bad way. Consequently, I often felt more like another burden than that it helped.

That's because they have no expertise in mental health

I just kind of scoff at them to be honest. I've never heard anyone say anything good about them.

Every time I have reached out for help from conventional sources, whether it's a suicide hotline, a doctor, a therapist or tried medication it's only reinforced this fact - no one can help me! So when I see a hotline number it just makes me feel hopeless and want to CTB more. Why would I risk being failed again? Everything that has made me feel any better has come from an unconventional source, for example, this forum makes life more bearable.

I called a hotline once, they had two phone numbers... One of them didn't work and nobody picked up the phone on the second one. I was having a terrible meltdown and Idk how I handled it alone tbh.

i hate it. It feels to me like a cop out. In my country CTB is on the rise (think we had 4 over the last 5/6 days... while this may seem small this is a very high rate for my country). Rather than deal with the things that are causing such a high rise in CTB (imo, cost of living, low wages/salaries, high crime, high unemployment, unaffordable housing, poor perception of individuals with mental challenges, etc.) call this hotline number (my country is so bad the government only just created that hotline last week... all the time before the country's suicide hotline was provided by a non-profit organisation... smh).

They are just useless and it just supports the harmful delusion that wanting to die is "irrational". Suicide prevention only prolongs suffering, instead there should be acceptance towards the right to die, it disgusts me how suicide is viewed as something always to be prevented, it's like many people forget that we are all destined to die anyway.
