Not to make light of others but I feel a large amount of posts here are long streams of chronic depression and societal failure to launch from an early age.

Is anyone here considering suicide despite having a reasonable education and background, for reasons they deem near impossible to solve?

I don't know, I have the same problem as you; most of the posts are gigantic texts that are a pain to read. I, at least, try to keep my posts short and coherent, but seeing such huge texts bores me to tears, which is why I'm not logged into this forum that often

I think I kinda fit this bill? I went to prep school all my life, go to a top ten liberal arts school in the US, about to graduate this year. None of this is bragging of course, I'm miserable and pretty directionless (obviously, I'm on this site LOL) but I am educated and from a white collar backround. Can I ask what your issues are that seem impossible to solve?

never went to college but i'm a pretty smart kid. smarter than most people i've encountered at least. though there is such thing as being too smart for your good. that's why most philosophers suffered from depression .

Yes. I'm not considering it, I'm planning it. Because of a permanent problem that makes life not worth living (and no amount of money can fix it).

People want to tell their story without being bombered by people who don't understand the struggle of wanting to die. Yes these posts are long but there is literally no where else where one can be heard. At least, not that I know of. I don't care how long someone's post is because they at least get to tell it and maybe be heard by someone who relates? Idk, just my opinion.

I second this. I think half the time it's not even about people replying, they just kinda want to release it into the ether when there's no way for them to in real life.

I think a majority of people just want to read something relatable and not post

Yes. The problem is that my perception has revealed this experience for me is a simulation or computational in substrate, whereas previously I had imagined it to be physics-based. Now that this is revealed, I see no reason to exist anymore, but struggle to face the unknown.

The question is whether it was always a simulation (potentially highly likely looking at pieces of evidence in life looking back) or whether it became a simulation due to some manners of relative disagreement in recent years wrt. me and powerful actors.

What do you study btw?

Would you be so kind as to elaborate?

I guess I fit the bucket enough. I have a master's degree. My problems are more to do with social isolation and extreme loss/betrayal.

It might be the fact that my english is so-so, but I don't find the description of the revelation you had concerning the nature of (your) experience to be coherently stated.

As a meta-observation of sorts: there are some reknown figures that take simulation hypotheses very much seriously (nick bostrom comes to mind) that nontheless continue to live rich lives, which to me indicates that you should entertain the possibility that your problem is psychological rather than philosophical in nature.

I don't think being suicidal has much to do with education. I've got a master's degree. I've seen plenty of peers struggle witn depression in uni. I've lost a friend to suicide, who was intelligent successful in his field. I've seen another acquaintance in uni do multiple failed attempts...

I don't even think the reasons are that different between people who failed at life because the system failed them, and people who managed to follow the system up to a master's degree, but then break under the pressure. In both cases the system brought them down, one just held on a little longer than the other, because they maybe had a slightly more privileged background, or less traumatic youth.

I've always struggled fitting into the system. But I was intelligent enough to find ways to cope, and I had the privilege of wealthy parents, so I had the financial stability to help me get as far as I did. I've always been teetering on the edge of collapse, but because of the financial basis I could keep my balence, if just barely. But ultimately, the way society functions, doesn't work for me. And in my working life, that has been catching up with me... I've tried many ways to adapt my lifestyle in a way that works for me, and also allows me to make a living in our societal system... But I've never found a workable answer. And I'm now arriving at a point of just giving up, seeing no more possible ways to make it work...

I'm a early-40s male with a degree from an Ivy League university. I've worked for large, world-famous investment banks and in public policy in DC with a famous politician.

My life was terrific until a few years ago. Then I met, married and had a child with a woman who I came to find out was a narcissistic or borderline personality case. (My lawyer says one, my therapist says the other.) While I worked long hours to build a life for us and was truly dedicated to our young child, she was only focused on herself and her social media presence and made me absolutely miserable the last couple of years.

Early this year, she falsely accused me of abuse and I lost access to our child and almost everything I had worked so hard for. And then she managed to turn what little family I have against me, working with my toxic mother to isolate me from my family and my community.

So now I sit 24/7 in my tiny apartment, by day working from home at a job I hate to make large payments to my greedy, abusive ex-wife and by night watching bad TV and thinking about how my life has collapsed so suddenly. I've lost family, friends, and lots of money (including on lawyers who appear to be powerless in the face of my ex-wife's dirty tricks as, while I was blindsided, apparently she had been planning this for years).

I've been thinking about this for months and have set up my will and assets so my child will inherit what little I have left via a trust when of age, and have decided to CTB. I've attempted 12 times, but SI keeps kicking in.

i'm currently in college but still planning for suicide. either this year (it's my last year of college) or soon after i graduate. "education" make no difference in how depressed i am.

Idk what really constitute as 'educated', I was always considered a smart kid growing up, and I guess I did end up with a master's degree & a software engineering job despite me still think I am stupid (impostor syndrome).

It didn't really prevent from being depressed my whole life tho, and unfortunately money cannot fix the problems I have (or I wouldn't be here)
