Amitriptyline. What's the catch?

I was reading the PPEH (2022 edition) and I feel like I had completely glossed over the part where he discusses Amitryptiline. He rates it a 7/10 in terms of peacefulness. It seems as easy to source as SN. The only downside seems to be that it can take up to 24 hours to die using this method, so one would have to be sure one would be left alone for a long time. I'm not in a place in life right now where I'd be alone for that long, but I might be in a year or so. I'm thinking this could be a good way to CTB. Anyone know of any other downsides?

According to the 2025 edition PPH, Amitryptyline is the worst of the three Cardiac drugs that are discussed. Propoxyphene is the most peaceful and effective of the three but the hardest to source, while Chloroquine is said to be the easiest to source and a better overall option than Amitryptyline.

The PPH 2025 edition has a chart comparing the three of them in various metrics, and Amitryptyline is rated 6/10 for reliability, which is lower than Propo and Chloro.

I think the bottom line is that Amitryptyline is still going to be hard to source for people in the developed world because it's prescription only. Sourcing these products is always the main issue for most people.

Doctors tend to absolutely love prescribing antidepressants. It may take a while, but "trying" several SSRIs, SNRIs and uncategorized ADs such as Remeron and reporting no effect (which is common, since they lack clinical effect) will eventually lead to tricyclics. I even know someone who's on them for PMDS.

The regular reports are that it takes 12-48hrs for death, and there are some reports that it may take even longer, especially if you have a tolerance or are younger with a stronger heart.

Why the reliability is so low, chance of discovery is high, and anecdotal evidence seems to show that some people, typically those younger, may be able to survive the overdose older and sicker patients tend to CTB with.

So that's the catch. Pairing Amit with another cardiac drug (for example in the DDMA method) tends to make it more reliable.

Amit is very easy to source on the clearnet without a prescription. PPH even gives source, though that one is a little sketchy. But that one can be used to find other more reliable options.

Prescribed for nerve pain but I think you'd need a lot of scripts.
