Hey guys, so Ill get straight to the point.
I live in rural Germany and this Sunday night a car crash occured, killing 2 people from my year and heavily injuring 1 more. Most of my friends and many other people I know are in complete and utter shock about this accident, because everybody at least slightly knows who these people were. I on the other hand dont feel sorry in the slightest, despite me knowing who these people were aswell.

And its not like Iam just apathetic towards their deaths, I, in all honesty, think, that (at least the driver) kind of deserves living with the guilt he now has to face for his entire life (he is the one who literally survived unscathed).

I also fail to feel pity for the people, that died, it was like public knowledge that this guy drove like a fucking madlad (like who even thinks that its a good idea to drive a car with 130 km/h at night on an old, curvy secondary road), why did they even get in the car in the first place???

As you can see, I, unlike my peers, fail to feel bad about this and that fact makes me feel even worse...

Thanks for reading and thanks for the answers in advance

To be honest, if the driver was driving recklessly then yeah they should 100% live with that guilt and deserve what they got.

I think it also depends on the circumstances as to how bad I feel about someone's death. I suppose you could go further to say that they behaved like they did for a reason so- it wasn't their fault. The same reasoning could be used to go easy on murderers, rapists, child molestors. I think it's important to look at the background- in order to try to prevent future crimes. I'm not convinced it excuses them though.

Ultimately- from what you've said, they showed little regard for their own lives or worse- anyone elses. They could easily have killed another driver in that crash presumably. I'd probably feel a bit more sorry for the passengers. I think youngsters can feel a lot of peer pressure to just comply with stuff because they so want to be part of a group. They probably had too much faith that their friend could be reckless but also had quick enough reactions. I don't think it's like taking part in vandalism or, beating someone up. Most of their journeys probably went safely. Maybe that isn't right thought. I suppose it's because driving is what some people do everyday. But, it can be utterly lethal if not given enough respect.

I think I'm probably more callous than you in a way though. Sometimes I've heard about some really stupid things people have done and thought- maybe that's natural selection at work. Sometimes, I find myself about to do something clearly unsafe and think- it will serve me right if I break a leg doing this... Usually, that's enough to stop me and to find a safer way.

Well, they didnt hit another car, the driver just lost control (due to driving ludicrously fast on a curvy secondary road) and crashed in a tree. Rumours say, that he was drunk (everyone in the car was).
