Quartz Crystal - Ancient fragment of a 'Bulla' - aka - 'Protective amulet'

Late Roman rock crystal fragment of a 'bulla' - Constantinian inscriptions with emblema.

~ On the front of this fragmentary 'bulla' : a crescent moon with a star - flanked by the letters 'D-N' - visible at the top

~ Below : the inscription 'C-O-N' (identifiable with DN CONSTANTIVS PF AVG ) ;

~ Below this inscription : laurel wreath that converges towards a floral corolla;

~ Alongside inscription : military insignia ;

~ At the centre of the crown - there must have been the 'Christogram' - as can be seen from the engraved details still visible.

~ This depiction and inscription are identifiable in some monetary specimens of the Constantinian Era.

~ This rare pendant - carved in a rock crystal of extraordinary transparency and brightness - has a through hole for vertical fastening ; signs of wear ; and residues encrusted in the marks.

~ c. 4th century A.D.

Blue Tangs can change colour.

Juvenile Blue Tangs are actually bright Yellow all over.
As they get older, they gradually turn Blue.
Adolescent Blue Tangs are a light Blue.

Old Blue Tangs are a very dark Blue.
Old Blue Tangs also lose their aggressiveness.

Although younger Blue Tangs are loners, old Blue Tangs are often seen in large schools.

Blue Tangs take shelter in the reef at night. They will sleep alone in a hole or crevice in the reef.
At night, adult Blue Tangs change colour by showing a pattern of blue and white vertical bars.

Jadeite - Ancient Anthropomorphic 'Axe God'

• This pendant is six inches long and could have been worn on a cord as a necklace.
• It is carved from the mineral Jadeite and has a smooth texture. The markings on it suggest a simplified human face.
• Jadeite, one of two minerals that make up the gemstone known as Jade, indicated high status among individuals of precontact - aka - Precolumbian - Costa Rica.
• The people of this culture considered Jadeite to be the most precious mineral.
• Typically these pendants are Humanlike figures with Birdlike features.
• They are combined with the shape of an Axe, an important tool in ancient American culture.
• Jadeite pendants such as this one have been found placed as offerings in burial tombs.
• In some instances the pendants were discovered on the neck of the deceased.
