How does SS feel about social media influencers especially YouTubers going to aokigahara and making a spectacle out of it?

I know there was the whole Logan Paul thing back in 2018 but he is not the only one.

Personally IMO i kinda find it a bit disrespectful that some internet people go there just so they can get clicks both Japanese and non-Japanese.

These people are obviously not suicidal and don't have depression so they don't understand what people like us go through.

I also find it disrespectful that in their videos they make the place out to be a lot more spookier than it actually is.

It is a forest where people go to CTB it is a dark but also sad place not a scary evil place.

I also dislike how they touch the belongings of the dead. IT IS A CRIME SCENE UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.

This guy for example has over 100 different videos on the same damn thing and he is clearly milking the forest.

Not to mention this which is clearly fake and edited.

I have made it known that i do want to die here but if i do get the chance to go i will try to get lost deep in so i will never be found.

I wouldn't want some YouTuber filming my body and touching and stealing my stuff for internet views.

What are your thoughts on this SS?

I agree, I think it's disrespectful. It really is frustrating to know that even the dead can't have peace because of idiots like them (YouTubers who film the forest for views). Anyone with a shred of decency would have the sense to not make a spectacle out of it.

Exactly. I mean i get that it is technically a tourist spot and people go there for reasons other than suicide as well but unless you are making a documentary of some kind like Vice did you should respect the dead when going off track.

I despise it. I also hate how much the forest has become in essence a place for some internet clowns to get some YouTube cash. The only videos I like about aokigahara are from people who admire the nature. There was a guy who would talk about all sorts of bugs he found in the forest, I prefer that rather than having people deliberately hunting for dead bodies.

Since there is no video time stamp, what are we meant to be looking at?

People have always been fascinated by death, and you don't have to be suicidal to satisfy your curiosity. We're all going to die, so the curiosity is understandable and normal. Suicide Forest, unless you work in mortuary sciences, is a means to fulfill your sense of wonder.

If you choose to die in Suicide Forest, you already know what's going on. It's become an infamous spot for looking at dead bodies.

If you don't want You Tubers to desecrate your body and belongings, ctb at home, where the coroner will transport you directly to the mortuary.

There will be no spectacle if you don't make a public display of your suicide. You already know that people don't respect sh!t!

Did you read the thread?

Also well there is such a thing as human decency.

Thing is it really isn't a so called public display.

A lot of people who go into the forest go deep in because they want to die alone and never be found.

Also people were killing themselves in the forest years before these kinds of people showed up too.

It is a public display if you ctb on public land that is a famous tourist site for dead bodies.

Aokigahara is public land that was intended to be enjoyed by anyone.

Then someone thought it would be a good idea to take over and use it as an open air cemetery, resulting in the spectacle that many profess to despise.

You admit you want to contribute to the spectacle by committing suicide at Suicide Forest.

Humans, on the other hand, are not decent. That is something on which everyone on SaSu can agree.

If you want to die in the wilderness without having to whine about You Tubers, purchase your own acreage and do it in solitude and dignity.

You can't complain about something you want to be a part of.

That's historically inaccurate.

Originally people started killing themselves in the forest not because they were depressed and couldn't adapt to society but because they were Buddhist monks who wanted to have a peaceful honorable death.

Aokigahara being used as a suicide spot for depressed people started in the 1960s when Japanese novel author Seichō Matsumoto published a book called Kuroi Juka 黒い樹海 Black Sea of Trees. A novel where two lovers die in aokigahara at the end of the story.

I don't want to contribute to the spectacle i want to go there because i want to die in a beautiful place and be forgotten.

We used to live in Japan, so many American kids know this forest.

It makes no sense to me to criticize the YouTubers who provided you with the video content. This is what is now happening in the year 2023, and I see people becoming offended at everything disingenuous.

The most intriguing component of your story was your desire to ctb in Suicide Forest and romanticizing the event.

I wish you had focused on you rather than the YouTubers! lol

Being offended that people hunt for corpses isn't disingenuous. It's literally even against YouTube TOS to show dead bodies. You kind of sound like you are accusing OP of starting a witch-hunt when all they did is talking about their displeasure of how influencers handle these types of places on a niche Suicide Forum. From a moral and juridical standpoint, desecrating and violating dead bodies is against the law. Even though Logan Paul is known to be the worst, there are other influencers who do similar shit elsewhere (Look up Taiwan grave site laowhy86).

And ultimately everyone has to decide for themselves where and how they wish to die, please don't criticize people's decision. If OP's last wish is to die there, then so be it. AND Sorry, but 99% of this forum is romanticizing suicide, seeing it as some form of sweet release from their suffering.

Edit: Since you don't want a response, I will elaborate here why I think you are accusing OP of a witch-hunt. You keep saying that people are offended about everything. Sorry, but when I read that, I can't help but think you are referring to out-rage culture/ cancel culture, because most people against those things will tell people to stop being offended about stuff. Sorry if that wasn't your intention, but that's how I interpreted your words. Besides, I doubt anyone here is genuinely offended. It feels like you are trying to shut down discussion, because you keep saying that they don't have the right to be discomforted by things like these, if they want to die in the very same forest where some influencers make videos. Sorry, but I don't agree with that sentiment. Also, I don't keep track of peoples posts and opinions and no I'm not offended, but you made me realize that engaging with people here is pointless

its disgusting. there is no good reason for their awful behaviour, they are sick individuals whose only focus is money and fame. doesnt matter if its a popular tourist attraction, its not the right thing to do and it is valid and acceptable to be angry about it. i too have thought of going there to cbt, as ive always wanted to visit japan and i feel like that would be the perfect way to end the trip. unfortunately there always has to be a couple of selfish fuck wits who ruin it for everyone else. its a shame bc its such a beautiful forest, it would be so peaceful to die there.

Many Japanese hate that aokigahara is most popular for suicide and hate that a lot of people go there to hunt for bodies just so they can look at them.

Totally agree that the decision where to die is OP's alone. By the same token I'm in no way surprised that youtubers sensationalise or exploit the 'creepy' factor for clicks. This is the world we're living in.

We're all different. It doesn't seem romantic to me in any way, rather, scary as all hell. I agree that ctb is often romanticised on here. I don't want to offend or upset anyone, we are all trying to cope with an unacceptable reality in our own ways, but I did watch a video log of a walk in the forest some time ago and it would never be my choice.

Despite misinterpreting my message, you want to be offended. I'm old and don't share my life on social media, but I completely accept it on behalf of the younger generation. I don't criticize YouTubers or Influencers. It's 2023!

My generation said, "If you built it, they will come."

As long as people keep committing suicide at Aokigahara, and "building the tourist site," YouTubers will keep coming.

This was my only issue with OP. When you want to ctb at Aokigahara, how are you offended? You're supplying the YouTube content you profess to despise. Make it, make sense!

I have no clue why you're accusing me of a "witch hunt." The YouTubers you mentioned and their videos are unknown to me. I don't need to see Aokigahara on YouTube because I lived in Japan.

-Don't reply. I'm leaving bc in another thread, OP was defending pedophiles. Sick!

No offense but that's a petty reason to leave the entire forum altogether and i was defending pedophiles who don't abuse kids not those who do commit CSA.

It lowkey has the same vibe as vlogging on a graveyard. I fully understand why they are curious, especially youtubers trying to connect to possible lost souls, but there should be some boundaries to respect the dead and let them rest in peace. They should concider just staying on the paths. On any other resting place you wouldn't walk straight over the thing so here it shouldn't be okay either.
The touching the crimescene argument is legit too apart from being very disrespectful to the diseased.

Exactly it is a crime scene until proven a suicide.

If you are gonna touch other peoples stuff you should put some gloves on because you don't know where that stuff has been and it is respectful.
