I'm gonna answer this the best i can with seriousness, because it's an easy answer to philosophise about, but if in that situation, probably very different. like when people imagine they'd do something different in a dangerous situation and criticise others, but the reality is they'd probably freeze in that situation too and not be a cinematic hero they'd want to be.
if it was a hard choice with as painless as possible ctb, which is what i've been racking myself with figuring out. it'd depend on what it is, the pain, in my circumstances. like if it's just physical pain, maybe not 10 seconds, because 10 seconds would definitely feel like 3 weeks in the moment. i guess it depends how invasive the pain is, like being crushed by something or being r*ped and tortured, i'd say absolutely not, even if it was for just 10 seconds and a guarantee of death, i'd say absolutely not to that. but if it was pain that wasn't invasive like that, like i'm crushed by something like final destination type of pain for 10 seconds, but a guarantee of death, i'd say ye. that is if having a careful, painless ctb wasnm't an option.
though all of this is way easier said when thinking baout it as what if than actually being faced with the situation, it'd be easy for most people to be like "yeah, a few seconds of pain and then die, hell yeah". whereas when you're actually face to face witht he beast, things would be totally different.
