Hi everybody,

I'm sorry for writing two posts in a row but I need some advice.

I'm 20 and I am looking into trying to write my will. I have a lot of money saved up from working many jobs, my child trust fund and my parents saving when I was a baby. I don't want any of my family to have this money, I want 100% of it donated.

I have been looking into the legalities of writing a will, and for it to be valid you need to have two other witnesses to sign it. As I said, I am only 20, so I'm not sure of anybody who would sign my will considering I'm quite young. Does anybody know what I can do? I don't know who to ask, but if I don't write a will then my family will take 100% of my savings.

I'm in England, so I need to look at the laws here and I really need to figure out how to do this so that nobody catches on that I'm writing it because I'm suicidal.

Thank you for the help❤️

In Australia the people who sign as witnesses don't even have to know you. Just walk in to a lawyer's office and ask to have your Will witnessed and signed. One will be a lawyer, the other could even be a secretary who works there. You're perfectly old enough to be treated just the same as an adult 20 years older so don't be held back by that. Take your ID (birth cert, passport etc) and you'll be fine. Here we also have a free service which does the same. I've taken in a Will I've written to the Local Court office where at designated times a solicitor will be available for the purpose of witnessing/signing. Just make sure you don't sign it beforehand - it has to be done in front of the witnesses.

Thank you so much, I'd like that :) I unfortunately don't have anybody to sign it as I don't talk to many people.

Thank you so much for the great amount of help :) I can try to do that. So I can write up my will beforehand, and take it into the lawyer's office unsigned so we all sign it together? I need to look into the legalities more for England, but that sounds fairly similar to us. Again, thank you so much.

Same exact thing here in America, my lawyer calls in two people I've never seen(every time, I've changed my Will several times), and they witness the signing of my Will, and that's it

Oh wow I didn't know I needed witnesses. I just wrote down what I desired my two cars to go to on a piece of paper. I guess legally they will go to my parents, who would respect my wishes anyway.

I the us similar thing, u can go get your will notarised, and most notary offices will have witnesses standing by, u might have to pay for each witness but it's not much, u just have to make an appointment in advance and let them know how many witnesses are required

Would I need a lawyer to get it signed like how you have done? I don't have a lawyer currently but I wouldn't mind looking into getting one just to have this done quicker.

Unfortunately you need two witnesses if you want to have your will legally recognised, but if not then I believe that your married partner or your civil partner gets your possessions. If you're not in a relationship like that when you die, it goes to children, parents and other family members I think.

Oh of course, thank you for the advice :) so I just need to make an appointment with a lawyer and they will have two people there to sign it, or I have to bring two people? I'm sorry for asking so many questions, I just need to have this correct.

Haha, if only I had 60K to spare, I have nothing like that, but I wish you the best😊

Wouldn't it be better if you start donating in small amounts to those you think are needy while you are still alive yourself?

That's true. I need access to the account first, but I wanted to donate basically all of it to an alcohol charity in the UK (memory of my Mum), and the rest to some other charities that mean a lot to me. Thank you, I'll think about that, but I'd like a will regardless.
