When I wear them to drive, the world feels less real. And passersby won't be able to use their eye trick of simulating connection on me.

It very well is possible. Im not sure it would make much of a difference for me but considering that it makes your perception of reality feel less real, I would say to go for it

I'll wear a bandana over my eyes to simulate oblivion. Hopefully I don't walk into traffic instead.
